<GauravShukla[m]> hello this is gaurav shukla
<GauravShukla[m]> I want to be a part of google summer of code 2023
<rcurtin[m]> hi Gaurav Shukla, the program hasn't been announced yet; but maybe [this page](https://www.mlpack.org/gsoc.html) is helpful for you 👍️
<rcurtin[m]> also, does anyone here happen to have an x86_64 mac? I'm looking for someone who can test a wheel that I built :) (also looking for: windows arm, linux arm)
<birm[m]> I have an old mac circa 2011 at my father's house, but can't remember its specs.
<rcurtin[m]> yeah, this would just need to have relatively recent OS X plus Python
<rcurtin[m]> technically I did the test already in CI, but, I'm a little paranoid, so if someone wants to run the test again it makes me feel better :)
<birm[m]> Oh, if you're looking for someone to just run a test rather than contribute to a build farm, I have a work one from 2017 with an i5.
<birm[m]> Maxos 12.6
<rcurtin[m]> yeah, I think that would be perfect... if you can set up a Python environment with Python 3.9, then you can try installing a wheel from [here](https://dev.azure.com/mlpack/mlpack/_build/results?buildId=8733&view=artifacts&pathAsName=false&type=publishedArtifacts)
<rcurtin[m]> just download either the whole "drop", or the macos-x86_64 .whl file; then you can install with `pip install <path_to_local_file>.whl`
<rcurtin[m]> and, if it works at all, then it's a success. typically the "problem" would be the `import mlpack` step, but if that gives you no problems, then everything is probably good to go :)
<birm[m]> Oh markdown formatting doesn't work as expected
<birm[m]> But macos_10_9_x86_64.whl from the drop you linked worked just fine as above!
<rcurtin[m]> victory!! thank you 💯
<rcurtin[m]> that only took something like 200 attempts
<rcurtin[m]> I thought after leaving my job at RelationalAI that I would have, like, a lot of free time and stuff like that. instead I have spent it so far mostly fighting with Python build systems 😭
