<arno11> Wizzup: i can confirm it works on my device as well. but only in one way (but with a very bad connection btw)
<arno11> i'll try again when back to home
<Wizzup> ok, it might be time to rnu gabble with additional debug and compare our config/settings
<arno11> ok
<Wizzup> back in a few hours :)
<arno11> me too

<KREYREN> So i turned the boost mode on and it actually killed the battery xD Won't charge anymore
<KREYREN> good thing the replacement that should have much better health arrived today
<sicelo> that shouldn't happen
<sicelo> the won't charge anymore part, that is
<KREYREN> sicelo, the battery is very old it was barelly hanging by, it seems that the increase of 0.2A is too much for it
<sicelo> i think that shouldn't prevent charging
<sicelo> anyway, you have a battery on the way ...
<KREYREN> it's effectively charging at 1.4W atm and afaik the BMS cut out is 1.5W bcs it has too much of internal resistance now?
<KREYREN> and it was at 1.58W charging before
<KREYREN> took like 14h to get full charge
<KREYREN> also heats up a lot
<sicelo> ok
<KREYREN> Did anyone tried to make a DIY battery for N900 before btw?
<KREYREN> was thinking about reverse-engineering the BMS and putting a lipo on it
<sicelo> i think you asked in #maemo the other day, or was it someone else? yes people have run the N900 on 18650 in 2S config for example
<KREYREN> wasn't me
<KREYREN> oh there is a whole forum post about it on maemo website :D
<KREYREN> cool
<KREYREN> The diagram is kinda sketch
<KREYREN> hmm it has 3 pins right do you need anything special sent on the 3rd pin for the data>
<sicelo> iirc it's meant to be a thermistor, whose resistance feeds an ADC in the phone. it's used to estimate the battery capacitance
<KREYREN> i see
<sicelo> there should be information about the average resistance you can put it (so no necessarily a thermistor)
<KREYREN> so basically it tells the N900 when to stop charging when the battery is too hot right
<sicelo> not really @ getting hot
<sicelo> unfortunately n900 charging & fuel gauge circuitry is a bit of a hack. tldr; the chip that does temp sensing for the battery is actually located in the phone, not in the battery
<KREYREN> i see

<arno11> KREYREN: 14h to get full charge ?...wow something went really wrong lol
<arno11> usually boost mode has almost no real impact on a good battery (no excessive heat or high power usage)
<arno11> at least on my device
xmn has joined #maemo-leste
<arno11> btw 600 and 805MHz use the same voltage actually

<KREYREN> arno11, it seems to have increased the power draw by 0.2 A which apparently was enough to finish it :D
<arno11> 200mA seems a lot
<arno11> 0.2A @idle ? or doing something specific ?
<KREYREN> arno11, how's the power consumption on your end? the pcb that i have in it atm was very hugged up when i got it so it's possible that somethign does too much resistance
<arno11> pretty sure something is really wrong
<arno11> most of the time with boost mode, it stays @500 600MHz as usual
<arno11> and i've never seen such a power draw with higher freqs
<KREYREN> arno11, would it be too much trouble for you to take the PCB out of the device and report to me the resistance on the test pads using a consistent ground? Would help me a lot to fix the other N900 which basically has a black spots over the PCB and lithography sparks on the antenna on the case
<KREYREN> ideally the ground on the hackerbus
* KREYREN 's both N900 were saved from e-recycling service and he basically had to rework the whole PCB to get the device to work
<arno11> sorry too much trouble for me: already have damaging parts on it :(
<arno11> ah ok i see
<KREYREN> yea i ideally need this from a device that is in mint condition :D
<KREYREN> i will be open-sourcing the PCB so that should fix these issues after though
<arno11> really ?
<KREYREN> yep :p
<KREYREN> i have plans to put a riscv SoC on it as well, but first i need to figure out the SOM solution https://git.dotya.ml/kreyren/OSHW-System-On-Module
<KREYREN> (not up to date there is more work that i am putting together into a sensible standard)
<arno11> ok, really cool btw
<KREYREN> ^^
<KREYREN> there is still like 2 weeks of work so hopefully in a month the SOM will be handled and then making the PCB is like 8 days of work
<KREYREN> bcs just making exact copy would be too expensive to fabricate
<arno11> ok, ofc
<KREYREN> the SOM fixes that by utilizing that lot of PCB fabricators will do up to 8 layer pcbs for 2 EUR and you get 5 of them, but they have to be below 50mm2 so putting that on a 2 layer board with spread out pins to be able to route it
<sicelo> you're the one that asked for Neo900 files (gerber)? I've been asking myself where I remember your nick from
<arno11> really interesting stuff
<KREYREN> sicelo, ye
<KREYREN> sicelo, h
<KREYREN> sicelo, guy from the hackerspace that cooperated on the neo900 project was at our hackerspace yesterday even :D

<Wizzup> btw, I think the PA change for shm also fixed ringtone for me
<arno11> it works again for me as well
<Wizzup> maybe we should try the 4? (or 8?) that FMG suggested
<Wizzup> I think I am still on 32 or 16
<arno11> i tried 4
<Wizzup> works well?
<arno11> performances with emulators decreased
<arno11> otherwise, no change
<Wizzup> interesting
<arno11> yep
<arno11> example:
<Wizzup> I will set 8 for now
<arno11> with 64, picodrive can't run @60 fps + audio 44100 and need a bit of frameskip
<arno11> with 32, works fine
<arno11> with 4, same as 64
<Wizzup> strange
<arno11> yep
<arno11> maybe that's just a weird stuff with pico
