<debdrup> My HTPC boots to Kodi, then immediately crashes, and gets stuck in a boot loop - I _think_ it's activated safe mode (since it isn't displaying my preferred theme, but is using the default), but it's still stuck in a crash loop.
<debdrup> Is there a way to force safe-mode, so that I can at least get a backup of the current config? As it is, the system reboots too quick to let me ssh and do anything.

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> add “textmode” to kernel boot params and it will boot to a terminal session instead of Kodi
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> connect a USB keyboard, then move /storage/.kodi to /storage/.kodi-old
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> then remove ‘textmode’ and reboot, and you should have a clean Kodi instance to start from
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> if it still crashes there’s a hardware issue; probably in the storage device LE is installed to
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> most “Kodi crashes on startup” problems are the result of add-ons

<cyph84> chewitt: how are the packages from https://chewitt.libreelec.tv/testing/ built? i can't seem to find a branch based on 5.19.0-rc7 kernel

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> I build from some scripts then push the images to a download share. I can push the changes to a branch later, but there's not much between rc5 and rc7 kernels

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> this is up-to-date: https://github.com/chewitt/LibreELEC.tv/commits/amlogic
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the kernel branch is here: https://github.com/chewitt/linux/commits/amlogic-5.19.y
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the same locations I normally push changes

<debdrup> chewitt: I'm used to FreeBSD where the loader lets you modify things while at a console, so I'll have to look up how to do that with something Linux-like, since it's not readily apparent how to do it as there's no prompt or an easy way to get to one that I can spot.
<rdo> Is it possible to keep more than one kodi.old.log? I.e. something like logrotate on Linux does, e.g. keep the 10 latest logfiles.
<debdrup> I can probably figure out how without bothering you folk about it.
<debdrup> Or maybe not.
<debdrup> Guess I'll have to have some sort of live envioronment since there's no loader with a prompt.

<debdrup> I got .kodi renamed to .kodi.broken, and that resulted in it crashing even sooner than before (during the logo, instead of when it's gotten to the homepage).
<debdrup> It not perfect system.
