<momoninja> hi
<momoninja> I am using a raspberry pi 3b with libreelec 10.0.2 All FullHD VP9/mkv videos are lagging and rebuffering. That was not the case with older versions of libreelec
<momoninja> also from a laptop the movies from the same video source (NAS) are running without any problem
<momoninja> I can only imagine, that either the pi has some hw or sw issues.
<momoninja> 720p is fluent as 1080p was before as well

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> LE10 no longer uses the downstream software optimisation hacks for ffmpeg that are used in older LE releases
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> They are clever but will never go upstream
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> If you need support for codecs that your RPi hardware does not natively support.. stick with LE9.2.8

<momoninja> I have encoded all my blurays to vp9 as this is an open codec....
<momoninja> so now I need to either install an outdated version or find another device that has hardware support for vp9?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> RPi3 never had optimisation for VP9 (although it’s technically similar to HEVC)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> and it’s mostly used by streaming services (which also offer H264, which is supported)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> I’d comment that VP9 was an odd choice to encode everything to for an RPi user
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> even RPi4 doesn’t support it in hardware
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> So the options are a) stick with LE 9.2.8, b) look for something that natively does VP9
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> and before you ask .. most of the staff avoid hardware recommendations

<diederik> momoninja: I'm using a Rock64 and am *quite* pleased with it, so I'd guess a RockPro64 can only be better

<momoninja> diederik: is there a compatible DAC-Hat for the rock64? I am using the raspi 3b+ with a justboom DAC hat.
<momoninja> as I want to have a bit better audio
<momoninja> it has the pi2 gpio bus so it might be compatiblee
<momoninja> have a good night. thanks for the infos chewitt. bye
