<wael_> any X11-nvidia users here? currently running into a problem with Xorg not being able to display anything.
<testuser[m]12> Elaborate
<wael_> i'm not sure how more can i elaborate, Xorg just simply gives a black screen, i had set the nvidia drivers to be used in xorg.conf.
<wael_> i am unable to switch any TTYs in that black screen state, i am forced to reset my computer.
<testuser[m]12> Have u set up ssh
<testuser[m]12> u can ssh from your phone and kill X
<wael_> i have done that, killing X doesn't do much.
<testuser[m]12> so u have the Xorg.log and dmesg?
<wael_> dmesg no. xorg.log yes
<testuser[m]12> Upload to termbin.com
<wael_> i already have it uploaded to github gist, is that fine?
Ogromny has joined #kisslinux
<testuser[m]12> Yeah
<testuser[m]12> That's your kernel co nfig wael_
<wael_> scroll down
<testuser[m]12> Install a font
<wael_> i have installed fonts in .local/share/fonts
<wael_> its not executing anything at all, just simply launching xorg with no applicatons.
<testuser[m]12> Wdym
<wael_> it quits and all i get in return is a black screen and no access to TTY. something might be wrong with the nvidia drivers of some sort
<wael_> i am using sx, the sxrc is completely empty.
<testuser[m]12> no window manager?
<wael_> i have one but i am not setting Xorg to use it
<wael_> it was set before but i removed it for testing, as it had given the same result - a black screen.
<testuser[m]12> still try kiss b ttf-croscore
<wael_> alright brb
<testuser[m]12> And you're in the video and input groups right?
<wael_> yes i am
<wael_> in tty group as well
wael_ has quit [Quit: zzz]
<testuser[m]12> Also try running nvidia-xconfig as root once
wael_ has joined #kisslinux
<wael_> still a black screen unfortunately
<testuser[m]12> Also try running nvidia-xconfig as root once
<wael_> alright
wael_ has quit [Client Quit]
wael_ has joined #kisslinux
<wael_> same thing sadly
<testuser[m]12> Been a long time since i used X but could you just try to install xinit once and do startx /usr/bin/windowmanager?
<testuser[m]12> I know 2-3 people who use xorg with gkiss nvidia
<testuser[m]12> Hmm
<wael_> i use sx, not startx or xinit
<wael_> but theoretically it should still be the same thing..
<testuser[m]12> Yeah i mean to say just try with startx instead of sx
<testuser[m]12> though it probably wint help
<testuser[m]12> also can u get a dmesy
<testuser[m]12> dmesg and the new log
<wael_> i will try right now
wael_ has quit [Client Quit]
wael_ has joined #kisslinux
<wael_> this contains both dmesg and xorg logs
<testuser[m]12> mdevd is running?
<wael_> mdev is running but not mdevd
<wael_> i tried with mdevd but it didn't help
wael[m] has joined #kisslinux
wael_ has quit [Client Quit]
<testuser[m]12> i mean u enabled the mdev service right
<testuser[m]12> [ 57.841] (Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/share/fonts")., Try this too
<testuser[m]12> Also can u get the dmesg after xorg exits?
<wael[m]> xorg does exit already, so I don't know how I can get dmesg after it exits
<wael[m]> testuser[m]12: well yes I have
<testuser[m]12> wael[m]: the dmesg only seems to have lines upto the nvidia driver being loaded so ig you took the dmesg before launching xorg
<testuser[m]12> Also this time did you do startx /usr/bin/wm or sx
<wael[m]> testuser[m]12: sx, I will try xinit now
<testuser[m]12> Also how exactly ate you loading the nvidia module
<wael[m]> testuser[m]12: I am not loading it
<testuser[m]12> try loading it explicitly
<wael[m]> Manually no, but I have a file in xorg.conf.d to use nvidia module
<wael[m]> testuser[m]12: also dmesg looks exactly the same. Even after it has quit
<testuser[m]12> Here the last point
<testuser[m]12> The NVreg* stuff can be omitted
<wael[m]> nvidia-smi?
<wael[m]> testuser[m]12: just have the nvidia-drm?
<testuser[m]12> tee /etc/rc.d/nvidia.boot <<EOF
<testuser[m]12> /bin/modprobe nvidia
<testuser[m]12> /bin/modprobe nvidia-drm modeset=1
<testuser[m]12> EOF
<wael[m]> OK will do that
<testuser[m]12> Then reboot and check logs again, using startx /usr/bin/wm instead of sx
<testuser[m]12> Can't think of any more issues with your setup
<wael[m]> > <@testuser:matrix.pratham.cc> tee /etc/rc.d/nvidia.boot <<EOF... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/a781cc927f2a958cd32b02cc5e1a3c7954417747)
<wael[m]> My framebuffer is really weird now
<testuser[m]12> Wat
<wael[m]> I don't know how to explain it
<testuser[m]12> It has zalgo?
<wael[m]> But 70% of the screen is frozen
<wael[m]> The top is active
<testuser[m]12> type `reset`
<testuser[m]12> lol
<wael[m]> Doesn't help
<testuser[m]12> hmm
<wael[m]> 70% of my screen is just frozen
<testuser[m]12> How does that even happen
<wael[m]> Can I upload images here via matrix?
<testuser[m]12> yeah
<testuser[m]12> This is after setting the module in /etc/rc.d ?
<wael[m]> Yes
<testuser[m]12> What if you do startx now
<wael[m]> Same exact thing sadly
<testuser[m]12> Bruh
<wael[m]> Something has to be wrong with my kernel or something this is so weird
<wael[m]> wael[m]: Also, when starting Xorg there's glitched line appearing in the exact place the screen is cut here
<testuser[m]12> <testuser[m]12> "[ 57.841] (Run 'mkfontdir'..." <- Did u do this
<wael[m]> mkfontdir doesn't exist
<testuser[m]12> lol
<wael[m]> I doubt fixing fonts will help xd
<testuser[m]12> A lot of the time I'm just missing a font
<testuser[m]12> And installing one fixes it
<wael[m]> Interesting
<wael[m]> What can I even do?
<testuser[m]12> I'd investigate more but i don't have access to my pc
<wael[m]> Should I try to rebuild nvidia drivers?
<testuser[m]12> No
<wael[m]> Or try to use nouveau as testing
<testuser[m]12> Reinstalling only helps on windows
<testuser[m]12> Yea u can try nouveau but you'd have to revert the whole nvidia setup with libglvnd and everything
<testuser[m]12> Btw anything new in the dmesg this time?
<wael[m]> No
<testuser[m]12> Btw can you send ss of nvidia-smi output
<wael[m]> Btw nvidia-smi just glitches the framebuffer but yes I will try
<testuser[m]12> If u don't mind then I might be able to check some more stuff with an unprivileged tmux shell, ms tech support style
<wael[m]> How?
<testuser[m]12> tmate*
<testuser[m]12> tmate-bin package in community
<wael[m]> Am I able to see what you will input?
<testuser[m]12> wael[m]: Seems fine
<testuser[m]12> Yeah
<wael[m]> Okay then
<testuser[m]12> dm me the ss of tmate output it gives a link
<testuser[m]12> Also I'll get your ip addr and you'll get mine
<testuser[m]12> tmate shows it
<wael[m]> Ssh part?
<testuser[m]12> yeah
<testuser[m]12> Dm
