<tomkeddie[m]>
esden (@_discord_269693955338141697:catircservices.org) you're using it 🎉🎉🎉
<esden[m]>
tomkeddie (@_discord_574338939620556811:catircservices.org) yes I am and it is great! It needed some TLC and percussive maintainance, but I figured it out and it is a wonderful improvement! 🙂 Thank you!
<tomkeddie[m]>
Glad it went to a good home.
<tomkeddie[m]>
I still laugh to myself at the border guy who used his allocated time with us to complain about how Portland had gone to shit. Didn't ask us anything!
<tomkeddie[m]>
For those following along I drove the machine down to Portland from Vancouver Canada.
<esden[m]>
Well, better that than asking "relevant" questions. 😄
<tomkeddie[m]>
As you knew, I was ready for them to charge $ on import, all legit.
<esden[m]>
FWIW, I also found out that electropolished stencils do work better than not electropolished ones. The solder paste does indeed detach easier from the apertures.
<esden[m]>
We discussed that import charge. I was ready to reimburse you.
<tomkeddie[m]>
And you spent it on beer instead.
<tomkeddie[m]>
🍻
<esden[m]>
tomkeddie (@_discord_574338939620556811:catircservices.org) can I expect you at Teardown again?
<esden[m]>
You should consider ToorCamp too 😉
<tomkeddie[m]>
Oh yeah, am about to email Josh with a workshop proposal. More sketchy Canadian imports unfortunately.
<tomkeddie[m]>
Cant do Toorcamp (everyone else should) is last week of school up here.
<esden[m]>
Ohh ok, fair enough. But still 😦
<esden[m]>
Looking forward to Teardown though! 🙂
<josHua[m]>
which reminds me, esden, you're in Eugene? I'm going to be around Portland / Toledo, WA for a few days approx Easter
<josHua[m]>
(also, will I see any of you at Latch-Up this year?)
<esden[m]>
Ok... who the heck is scanning my discord chat... now I am getting PCB-A Xray inspection machine adverts in my email box... >_<
<esden[m]>
Not planning Latch-Up unfortunately.
<esden[m]>
And yes I should be around josHua (@_discord_256468461818085377:catircservices.org)
<josHua[m]>
ok. Eugene is kind of a haul from there it looks like but if you happen to be in/around Portland any of those days, I can see if it is possible to say hello
<esden[m]>
I might drive up for Hardware Happy Hour around that time.
<josHua[m]>
my rough schedule right now is to fly in Thursday evening, the 28th; go for a backpacking walk on the 29th afternoon / 30th morning; fly out the 31st afternoon; see family in there somewhere

I am half joking here. I bet I was also searching for this stuff enough times that one of those data brokers picked up on it by now.

Probably

Has anyone ever contacted Crowdsupply to update their shipping address, and then been slapped with a retrospective sales tax recalculation and a demand for a few more dollars' payment?
<ebb>
I am experiencing this now, and wondering if anyone else has had the same (mildly probable given the how long the order round was). Originally ordered in 2021
<ebb>
*long ago
<FireFly>
I changed shipping address twice (though last time was already two years ago) and don't recall any of that for me
<FireFly>
one change was internationally, though all addresses were within EU/Schengen so I guess as far as sales tax goes there should be no difference
<ebb>
Well, same here, the rate hasn't changed between then and now
<ebb>
They seem to have shipping in the VAT (UK) in the new invoice whereas the old one excluded it
<galibert[m]>
Brexit?
<ebb>
Shouldn't make a difference - any kind of comparison between the rules on two different dates seems like a mistake here, to me (but I'm not a tax lawyer)
<FireFly>
I guess contact their support and see if it can be sorted out
<galibert[m]>
Can't say, but I wouldn't be surprised if Brexit had fucked with that too :-)
<ebb>
That's the thing, I'm in a conversation with support (to update shipping address) and this happened
<ebb>
I just shared in case anyone has experienced the same and could offer tips :)
<ebb>
or maybe I can share how this goes in return

yeah, I'd be curious even if it doesn't affect me directly
<sknebel>
fairly sure shipping should've been part of the VAT-amount before too, so sounds like they maybe did that wrong back then and now their system has fixed it?

<josHua[m]>
today is not great for me but I know the "more than 2x as much work happens" value of pairing so I can join in the future
<whitequark[cis]>
the reason i want pairing is just that i worked on glasgow during some of the worst periods in my life and now they're associated together
<whitequark[cis]>
i can rewrite associations obviously, but it's easier if i can jumpstart that off somebody
<josHua[m]>
yeah, I mean, I pair because my brain is just dramatically more productive with someone there who I can trust to keep an eye on the bullshit for me
<whitequark[cis]>
i literally do not care about code when i pair
<josHua[m]>
but there are many good reasons to pair and I am happy to help in any way that I can
<whitequark[cis]>
like, if i can collaborate with someone on code that's useful? but i am 100% fine with a pairing partner who does not even look at my editor
<whitequark[cis]>
you could be a literal cat for all i know
<josHua[m]>
yeah, I found that bouncing ideas off of someone is what I really have use for, much more than the mechanics of writing programs. that's a task that my fingers just do
<whitequark[cis]>
just don't put your fat butt on my enter key too many times
<josHua[m]>
by 'keep an eye on the bullshit for me' what I mean is, like, if I have to do research on something, if I trust that my pairing partner will go do research while I go implement something else, that is good. otherwise I would go ADHD myself away to do that research and never come back. usually this is a bad thing but like 10% of the time the research turns up something fruitful, so that is what I refer to as 'the bullshit'
<josHua[m]>
like, the distractions are in part distractions, but in part they are accomplishing something real. so if I can trust my pairing partner to assume the responsibility of being distracted by potentially important things, then I can focus
