<dnkl> I haven't noticed any cursor issues, and not sure why colors would be weaker in foot. unless the user has color profiles being applied in one case but not the other

<dnkl> he mentions "foot-terminfo" package being installed
<dnkl> depending on distro, that package may not contain the terminfo he expects
<dnkl> and thus may not actually be used

<dnkl> recent ncurses do
<dnkl> we still provide our own, since it has a couple of non-standard capabilities. but under a different name
<dnkl> if you're on an up-to-date system, there is no need to install "our" terminfo

<cbb> 90% of the database is for long obsolete hardware terminals
<cbb> and the other 10% is encoding dozens of capabilities that are mostly identical on terminals people actually use

<anarcat> right, but they're not *completely* identical, this is exactly the problem here

<cbb> if you reduced it to the essentials, it'd be just a few feature flags
<cbb> everyone follows the core of ECMA-48
<cbb> you could just have a tiny database of Booleans on top of that
