<Consolatis> I know Pound_Hash is gone but still answering: usually ctrl+shift+u 1f603 -> 😃 but doesn't seem to work with foot
<Arnavion> `man foot.init` -> search for "unicode-input" -> notice the default binding
<Arnavion> `man foo.ini` *

<Pound_Hash> Thanks!
<Pound_Hash> Yeah, we have logs, so I always come back to check for answers.
<Pound_Hash> I read the man page before. I don't remember reading about unicode. I see it now.

<acoolstraw> dnkl: it looks almost the same except the pixels are colorful... perhaps it's an issue with the font boldness? could be that the browser font is less bold...
<dnkl> acoolstraw: hard to say without pictures, but if the only difference is subpixel antialiasing, and you prefer grayscale antialiasing, I'd say just disable subpixel antialiasing globally in your fontconfig settings
<acoolstraw> https://files.gay/f/4g2cl this is how it looks, bottom is terminal, above is Chromium
<acoolstraw> this is with -0.3 letter spacing, whereas on the browser it has -0.4. -0.4 makes it more condensed though
<dnkl> yeah, that's subpixel vs grayscale
<dnkl> if I remember correctly, chromium mostly (completely?) ignores system fontconfig settings. Otherwise I'd be subpixel antialiased as well
<acoolstraw> hmm, how would I disable subpixel antialiasing without disabling antialiasing entirely?
<dnkl> you can test it out in foot with "foot -f fontname:rgba=none"
<dnkl> fontconfig ships with files you symlink into /etc/fonts/conf.d
<dnkl> make sure you do not have any *sub-pixel*.conf links there
<dnkl> and then add a symlink to 10-no-sub-pixel.conf
<dnkl> check existing links to see where the real files are located
<acoolstraw> damn, I can't seem to get it to work whatever I try...
<dnkl> acoolstraw: which compositor are you using?
<dnkl> also, what does "WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 foot true |& grep geometry" say?
<acoolstraw> labwc
<acoolstraw> [1420559.814] wl_output@15.geometry(0, 0, 350, 190, 2, "Lenovo Group Limited", "0x40B1", 0)
<dnkl> acoolstraw: right, so labwc is telling foot to use rgb subpixel antialiasing (the '2' sätter 350,190)
<dnkl> this overrides fontconfig
<dnkl> check with labwc if this is something you can configure
<dnkl> s/sätter/after
<dnkl> (phone...)
<acoolstraw> oh, got it. thanks
<dnkl> poll: should we set window urgency when we receive a notification escape (e.g OSC-777)?
<dnkl> urgency is currently only set on BEL
<dnkl> if we do add support for this, should it be gated by a new option?
<dnkl> acoolstraw: I posted a question in #labwc
<dnkl> no replies yet
<acoolstraw> btw, I was supposed to run that in the rgba=none foot window right?
<acoolstraw> dnkl:
<dnkl> acoolstraw: I have you a command to start a new foot instance with a font that explicitly disables subpixel antialiasing; doesn't matter where you run it
<dnkl> but won't help in this case, since labwc overrides it
<dnkl> acoolstraw: oh sorry, misread your question
<dnkl> doesn't matter where you ran the grep command. labwc isn't affected by that option

<Pound_Hash> @dnkl Hello sir. In the man page of `foot.ini`, under unicode-input, it says "0-9, a-f: append next digit to the Unicode's codepoint."
<Pound_Hash> But "a-f" aren't digits. But digits are normally thought of as numbers.
<Pound_Hash> Though the term may be appropriate if a-f are thought to constitute a number outside of the decimal system, e.g., hexadecimal
<Pound_Hash> Also, "The preferred way of entering Unicode characters, emojis etc is by using an IME."
<Arnavion> They're hex digits, yes
<Pound_Hash> Should be: "The preferred way of entering Unicode characters, emojis, etc. is by using an IME."
<Pound_Hash> *thumb-up*
