<davidlt[m]> We probably lost nuhive

<rwmjones|HOL> davidlt[m]: both boards appear to be up right now (I didn't touch anything)
<davidlt[m]> rwmjones|HOL: did you check kojid service?
davidlt has joined #fedora-riscv
<davidlt[m]> Yeah, nufive doesn't talk to Koji
<davidlt[m]> Last ping 3+ hours ago
<davidlt[m]> Btw, I have started ordering the last parts for all the boards
<davidlt[m]> I have my eyes on 52-port switch too :)

<neil> davidlt[m]: mikrotik, surely ? :D
<davidlt[m]> Nope
<davidlt[m]> (but checking now)
<davidlt[m]> Don't see what I want
<neil> they usually have decent stuff for vrey affordable prices
<davidlt[m]> I have been looking a large 48-52 port fanless switches (managed)
<davidlt[m]> I would love to see at least one 10Gbps port, but that explodes the price.
<davidlt[m]> Most fanless seem to be ~24-port.
<neil> yeah, that's due to heat limitations, likely
<neil> are you looking at copper or sfp switches
<neil> if i was at $lastjob, i know we had two switches that would have been great at an office in Lithuania :/
<davidlt[m]> copper
<davidlt[m]> Hmm... Maybe I didn't find it, looking at the tabs and I am not sure which one it was :D
<neil> not fanless, but not extremely expensive, from https://www.fs.com/de-en/products/90132.html -- disclaimer, i've not used their switch OS in a while. i wouldn't describe it as "amazing" though
<davidlt[m]> That's too expensive. I am looking for something cheap cheap to feed the boards.
<neil> this mikrotik might suit the needs; though not fanless https://mikrotik.com/product/crs354_48g_4splus2qplusrm
<neil> yeah, i get that
<davidlt[m]> It looks like 52-port switch I was looking at is not fanless, the variant with 24 is. Same as with other brands :/
<neil> copper ports make a lot of heat :/
<davidlt[m]> I was looking into Zyxel GS1900-48 I think.
esv has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<davidlt[m]> If you go with more modern one (XGS1930-52 which has 4 SFP+ ) it becomes ~1000 EUR.
<davidlt[m]> I typically would go with Netgear, but after reading some review I get impression that SW/FW on those switches are like 10 years old.
<davidlt[m]> Thus I started looking for something that was released relatively recently.
<davidlt[m]> Oh no.
<davidlt[m]> Tab hell.
* neil throws davidlt[m] a rope
<davidlt[m]> TP Link: TL-SG3452
<davidlt[m]> fanless
<davidlt[m]> "New" (2-3 years old maybe)
<davidlt[m]> Looking at various YouTube videos it has significantly newer (aka modern) Web UI interface, not like something from early 2000.
<davidlt[m]> It's not like I need much. It needs to move data, VLAN support, LAG, priority configuration. That's basically it.
<neil> huh, that looks pretty decent
<neil> has some routing features too
<davidlt[m]> And it even has IPv6 support (some didn't).
<davidlt[m]> It also has TLS 1.2. Apparently that's a big win :D
<neil> haha
<davidlt[m]> And packet buffer memory is more than 10x bigger compared to what Netgear offers on their old stuff.
<davidlt[m]> It seems way newer to all what I could find.
<davidlt[m]> It cost 350 EUR (or cheaper on some sites, but didn't check all options).
<davidlt[m]> Doesn't have SFP+, but hey that would raise the price to 1K EUR for sure.
<davidlt[m]> Top requirement: fanless
<davidlt[m]> So it's more expensive compared to 24-port, but not that much.
<neil> if the price is right, and it seems it is, that sounds like a good option
<davidlt[m]> And I could plug more boards as those come without buying more switches.
<neil> especially from a power usage perspective
<davidlt[m]> I already have a use for ~20 of those ports.
<neil> and can always do LAGs as you said, if needed
<davidlt[m]> Yup.
<davidlt[m]> I think Zyxel has a cheapish Multi-Gig (100/1/2.5/5/10) + SFP+ switch too switch.
<davidlt[m]> I was thinking to be smart with home networking, especially if I go beyond 1Gbps link, but I that sounds expensive.
<davidlt[m]> I mean having a custom (fanless) PC with SFP+ to take in fiber directly. Run Proxmox and OPNsense in a VM and deliver 2.5G connectivity.
<neil> yeah it can definitely add up really quickly. i am in the market for a switch myself but am running into the same issue as you heh

<rwmjones|HOL> davidlt[m]: yeah I checked both kojid actually and they *seemed* ok
<rwmjones|HOL> let me check again ...
<rwmjones|HOL> davidlt[m]: they still look ok
<rwmjones|HOL> I can restart kojid if you want but they both seem to be running builds so I guess those would be killed
<rwmjones|HOL> (things are going to be a bit disconnected until tuesday)
