<dustymabe> Hey LakshmiRavichand for https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/pull/3080 what is the version of rpm-ostree in your COSA container?
fifofonix has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<dustymabe> I think maybe you COSA container is just old
jpn has joined #fedora-coreos
<LakshmiRavichand> rpm-ostree-2022.13-1.fc36.s390x ; I built the cosa container today for testing
<dustymabe> and you still get the error about `Image has 50 non-ostree layers` ?
<LakshmiRavichand> yes, while referring to a specific build as well; e.g: cosa kola --upgrades --build=38.20220909.dev.0 gives me the same error
jpn has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<dustymabe> weird. I wouldn't expect that

<dustymabe> LakshmiRavichand: this is what it looks like for me: https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/pull/3080#issuecomment-1241961147
<dustymabe> LakshmiRavichand: what does the full output from your local run look like?
<dustymabe> i.e. what qcow does it download?
plarsen has joined #fedora-coreos
<dustymabe> LakshmiRavichand: in my local run I didn't compile in your change
<dustymabe> I can do that now
<LakshmiRavichand> fedora-coreos-37.20220602.91.0-qemu.s390x.qcow2.xz... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/52cd7438a533b6b7d10701f23574757ab6c8b51c)
<LakshmiRavichand> kola upgrade also works fine at my side without the change being in.
<walters> Just to repeat https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/pull/3080#issuecomment-1241850386 20220602 is too old right now, that's 3 months ago
<dustymabe> walters: yeah exactly
<dustymabe> we're just trying to figure out why - based on her PR
<dustymabe> LakshmiRavichand: when I run locally with your PR I get the same message as was in CI
<dustymabe> did you make any local changes to overcome the 'cannot unmarshal string into Go struct' error?
<LakshmiRavichand> unfortunately no, I am not able to reach to this point for some debugging in my local.

<dustymabe> ok I updated your code to print the parent version it found
<dustymabe> it's choosing 30.20190713.dev.0
<dustymabe> are you sure iterating over the releases in reverse is the right thing to do?
<dustymabe> yeah. looks like if I change it so that it doesn't do in reverse then it works
fifofonix has joined #fedora-coreos
<dustymabe> LakshmiRavichand: https://paste.centos.org/view/e4e8bbfb
<LakshmiRavichand> doing in reverse, I picked it from https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-pipeline/blob/fc3532704a0c3082810d34ca461d52747a53150a/jobs/build.Jenkinsfile#L194 as we wanted to develop similar logic in the kola.go as well;
<LakshmiRavichand> however, if that’s something not intended I can change it
<dustymabe> LakshmiRavichand: maybe the go code filters it for us or something
<dustymabe> i.e. sine we are using a library it probably handles that part for us
<LakshmiRavichand> okiess, I can go ahead and change the piece as you suggested

<lucab> dustymabe: I was reading https://github.com/coreos/coreos-installer/pull/977#issuecomment-1242078236 and you may want to reword the "set the argument directly" as I'm not sure what you are hinting at. Are you thinking about Ignition config, i.e. adding a warning in Butane if the input tries to set a console karg?

paragan has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<dustymabe> lucab: right. we won't be able to catch all cases (i.e. remote Ignition config), but would be nice to catch the ones we can
<dustymabe> i.e. if someone tries to set it via `coreos-installer` itself with something like `--dest-kargs`

<dustymabe> walters: do you know if we have any docs for extending a filesystem on an ostree system?
<dustymabe> I just resized a disk then ran growpart (which worked), but then the xfs_growfs failed until I remounted every mount rw
fifofonix has joined #fedora-coreos
<walters> i'm sure we don't; but it should basically work to `unshare -m /bin/sh -c 'mount -o remount,rw /sysroot && xfs_growfs /sysroot'`
<walters> not totally sure where to put that nugget
<dustymabe> maybe in the FAQ? now that we have searchable docs it should be easier to find
<walters> will trade that tip for review of https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/pull/3069
<walters> hmm, actually it works for me without the remount; paste your error?
jpn has joined #fedora-coreos
<dustymabe> walters: commented in that PR - will +1 after we resolve that comment
<walters> ah right sorry, yeah it fails when actually growing, I was relying on the no-op case

nb has quit [Quit: The Lounge - https://thelounge.chat]
<walters> wouldn't that be better in #podman ?
nb has joined #fedora-coreos
<dustymabe> maybe, though I was interested in your specific thoughts on it
<dustymabe> asked over there
<walters> it makes sense overall? Personally I think deltas are more interesting though
<walters> now if you're more specifically thinking about having lazily-loaded booted operating systems, that's totally possible but I think fewer people want the tradeoffs inherent in that model
<dustymabe> i think lazily loading a container image can make sense - assuming you go ahead and download the rest of the container at the same time and don't assume it will always be available
<dustymabe> I was interested in your thoughts on how they achieved the goal.. seemed like it overlapped with some of the work gieseppe had done recently
<dustymabe> i.e. being able to extract single files from container images.. I think giuseppe was using zstd which allowed for this
<walters> there's https://github.com/containers/podman/discussions which is a potential place for this type of chat too
<dustymabe> yep. thanks for the link to the PR
<dustymabe> walters: btw do you mind reviewing those two PRs I linked above that moves `next` to Fedora 37?
<walters> sure done but will trade that for https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/pull/3086
<dustymabe> reviewed
