Just figured out my audio issue. My typing sucks it seems. I mispelled my username for the audio group in the /etc/group file. A day wasted cause of a typo. uhg lol
<SiFuh>
Haha
<mnkydeth>
Teaching myself wireplumber now. Well, reading up on it. Next stop... bluetooth and getting a gaming controller connected.
<SiFuh>
Bluetooth is horrible. :-P I use a dedicated bluetooth adapter for audio with its own bluetooth stack so I don't need to mess around with it.
<SiFuh>
Creative BT-W3
<ppetrov^>
why is BT hprrible?
<ppetrov^>
*horrible
<SiFuh>
The list is massive ;-) you can just google search 'Bluetooth is horrible' and I bet you will get millions of results
<ppetrov^>
sound like and interesting read
<SiFuh>
OpenBSD dumped bluetooth altogether
<ppetrov^>
heh
<ppetrov^>
well, i have BT headphones, so I need it
<ppetrov^>
I use blueman and compile pulseaudio against bluez and sbc. Seems to work
<SiFuh>
My speakers require bluetooth hence buying the Creative BT-W3, so I don't need to worry about anything.
<SiFuh>
I like that I can just take the speakers and the BT-W3 adapter and plug it in any PC and I get audio without having to configure anything
<ppetrov^>
hehe, we are not "audiophiles", I guess. real audio guys will tell you sound over BT is an abomination and that you need vacuum tube amplifier and besst listen to sound from vinyl
<SiFuh>
I agree. Vacuum Condensers and Vinyl are the best
<mnkydeth>
Well, I had bought myself one of those new 8bitdo Ultimate controllers. Seems it's 2.4Ghz not bluetooth. So, it seems I may not need bluetooth after all.
<mnkydeth>
As of right now. I'm not sure of the actual benefits and such from wireplumber to pipewire-media-session
<ppetrov^>
SiFuh, that usb dongle seems like a nice idea
<SiFuh>
Yeah I like it. I have it synced to a JBL Go3
<SiFuh>
I tested it on OpenBSD, CRUX and Windows 10(?) and it appears as an audio device so I do need to mess around with any bluetooth settings or worry about bluetooth drivers.
<SiFuh>
I do NOT* need
<ppetrov^>
SiFuh, I used your 'scaled up' CRUX penguin mascot to make myself some simple wallpapers. I guess it's OK :)
<SiFuh>
I wish we could find the original
<ppetrov^>
it's close enough
<ppetrov^>
do you know who designed the original?
<SiFuh>
Nope. Jaeger might know. For a strange reason when you asked it the name skuupi popped into my head, but I don't think he designed it.
<ppetrov^>
skuupi? Sounds Finnish
<SiFuh>
Not sure. I could find out.
<SiFuh>
skuupi (skuupi@lakki.iki.fi) has joined #crux
<SiFuh>
Yeah, finland
<ppetrov^>
:)
<SiFuh>
Pulled that out of the 2002 logs
<ppetrov^>
jeez man
<ppetrov^>
you know IRC was created in Finland?
<ppetrov^>
in University of Oulu, to be precise
<SiFuh>
Internet Rele Chat :-P
<SiFuh>
ppetrov^: there is a conversation between danm, valen and morlenxus about the logo. The URL is an ftp that doesn't exist anymore ftp://plog.homeip.net/incoming/crux/
<ppetrov^>
still in 2002?
<SiFuh>
2001
<ppetrov^>
so right when crux was created
<SiFuh>
Yeah, I think wikipedia says 2002 but it wasn't 2002 it was in 2001
<SiFuh>
I think they are using version1 as the official release. But there were releases before it. 0.94 and so on
<ppetrov^>
it's curious, there was an amd64 release in 2005
<SiFuh>
AMD Opteron, the first CPU to introduce the x86-64 extensions in April 2003
<SiFuh>
Heh in the 2003 logs I compiled CRUX on a 64 bit CPU but it was on a Sparc
<ppetrov^>
yep, i remember when it came out, the amd64
<SiFuh>
I end up wasting a day when I start snooping logs. Haha I bet stop
<ppetrov^>
where do you get these?
<SiFuh>
On my external hard drive. My irssi saves all the logs when I am online
<ppetrov^>
all back to 2001?!
<ppetrov^>
geez, man
<SiFuh>
Pretty much and I have logs before then too
<SiFuh>
I logged everything for decades from many different chat programs
<SiFuh>
Even my emails
<ppetrov^>
amazing
<SiFuh>
Comes in handy sometimes. Like when I was telling my friends Google contacted me asking me to work for them. Of course they didn't believe me until I showed them the actual email. I turned them down because I was working in Shanghai in those days.
<ppetrov^>
do you regret turning them down?
<SiFuh>
Nope
<SiFuh>
I did say I'd be interested in their Chinese office but they said that wouldn't be possible
