hm, not sure what's "wrong" with my system. just tried wayland <-> xwayland, xwayland <-> wine, wayland <-> wine, docker(xwayland) <-> wayland, wine <-> docker(xwayland), qemu(wayland) <-> docker(xwayland), qemu(wayland) <-> wine. everything works.
<ivandi>
double checked that firefox, libreoffice and qemu(remote-viewer) run in xdg_shell
<farkuhar>
are you still only talking about Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V, or does the middle mouse button now work too?
<farkuhar>
personally I always found it too confusing to remember whether I had populated the primary clipboard (pastable from the middle mouse button) or the secondary clipboard (pastable using Ctrl-V). On a Wayland-only desktop I find it easier to rely solely on the secondary clipboard, but that requires some hacks to vimrc: http://ix.io/3Xu0
<ivandi>
IIRC middle button never worked
<ivandi>
not strictly related but wlfreerdp <-> xwayland/wine works too

how are you too starting your wayland and xwayland sessions?
<jaeger>
s/too/two/
<jaeger>
copy/paste between wayland and xwayland works fine on an arch install with kde plasma... will have to try with sway as well

qtwebengine with gcc12 was an easy fix with just one include missing

beerman: your directory listing of build logs had a suspiciously small file size for qtwebengine (~200 bytes compared to the 6.7MB of qtwebkit), so it makes sense that a single missing include was responsible for the early exit.
<beerman>
that probably was just a stub file, not the actual build log
<beerman>
out of 23k buildjobs, it failed at around 11k

OK, think I figured out the answer after digging more and it's stupid. Apparently I installed xorg-xwayland after sway and wlroots, didn't realize they require xwayland at build rather than runtime. After doing that, it seems like copy/paste works better. Not 100% of the time but much better, at least
<jaeger>
Also explains why sway wouldn't start xwayland for me, was having to do it myself
<jaeger>
So now I know
<beerman>
oh, sway wouldn't start with xwayland? sorry, i missed that point
<beerman>
i dont enforce xwayland for sway
<beerman>
my notebook still runs wayland only, i don't miss anything at all
