it looks like the select was originally added unintentionally by commit 6fcefd56f5060 ("drm/kms: fix kms helper license + Kconfig")

it's a general problem with drivers/gpu/drm Kconfig files, which have way too many 'select' statements for random stuff

geertu, javierm: it looks like we swapped the defaults for both CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE and CONFIG_FB_DEVICE:

anything that previously had DRM but not FB now has the legacy FB_DEVICE enabled, while anything that had DRM and FB used to have FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE but now only has FB_DEVICE
