My understanding is beacause Discord in comparsion to IRC and Matrix has very low barrier of entry.

I forget how alien it was to learn how to connect and use IRC the first time. But it was like that

sem: yeah its a pain in the ass. i currently use weechat and have a backup of my setup. right now its running on a nanopineo. when I feel like pulling the board and hosting my setup somewhere else I just put the backup in place and install the needed service and reboot.
