<fxsheep> Do brand new bcm2835 chips have any (interesting) uses?
<clever> fxsheep: the 2835's in most products have the OTP and hmac keys pre-burned, so there are some things you cant do with them
<fxsheep> And the pis that are burned with 0xFFFFFFFF
<clever> nope, the hmac key is burned with a real key
<clever> the firmware then censors it out when dumping the OTP
<fxsheep> Oh, interesting,
<fxsheep> what do they burn it for? large scale customers that enables secure boot ?
<clever> i think its mainly 2 things
<clever> first, to verify that its actually running on an rpi board, they assume nobody can see the keys (i can)
fxsheep has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<clever> second, you cant hot-air the chip off an rpi board, and reuse it in some other product
<clever> and yeah, the hmac is part of secure-boot, but its not that secure, symetric
