kanavin: I didn't know how to do what you were suggesting. I did try an strace, but that doesn't seem any more helpful. The same error shows up if I try installing dnf in core-image-minimal, but that pulls a lot of extra stuff in so it's probably not very helpful

does anyone use own-mirrors in kirkstone? it seems like it's not being used to set premirrors. setting BB_ALLOWED_NETWORKS & SOURCE_MIRROR_URL just results in failure to reach upstream URLs, it doesn't try my mirror, and bitbake -e doesn't include the own-mirrors content in PREMIRRORs..

In WR Linux (which may not be a great example), we have a bit more of a heirarchy with a top level direcory then a layers directory with well, layers.
