<Guest73> Hello, I need to link a lib in my makefile but this lib is not in the standard /usr/lib path.
<Guest73> I want to avoid to give an absolute path using -L
<Guest73> Is there an equivalent to -L using relative path to the sysroot?
<Guest73> For example for -I one can use this -I =/some/non/standard/include/path

<tgamblin> kanavin: I didn't know how to do what you were suggesting. I did try an strace, but that doesn't seem any more helpful. The same error shows up if I try installing dnf in core-image-minimal, but that pulls a lot of extra stuff in so it's probably not very helpful
Articulus has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<tgamblin> I'm starting to wonder if maybe we still do need the crosspythonpath.patch file, although it's not clear to me how that would influence dnf in do_rootfs

<khem> tgamblin:I would suggest to enable coredumpctl and then look at coredump. Are you seeing it on qemu target ?
<khem> add PACKAGECONFIG:append = " coredump" to systemd recipe via bbappend or config metadata ( local.conf or somesuch )
goliath has quit [Quit: SIGSEGV]
ehussain has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<tgamblin> khem: The issue shows up while building core-image-full-cmdline (or core-image-minimal with dnf in IMAGE_INSTALL:append) during do_rootfs, with my python3 uprev applied
<khem> I see, so its a crash on build host ?
<khem> my advice still applies to enable coredumpctl, I reckon there are layers that we have for yocto builds like pseudo etc. but hopefully it will catch coredumps on your build box
<tgamblin> khem: this is the ultimate error: https://pastebin.com/bSKGXdAY
<tgamblin> the actual issue doesn't seem to appear there or in my strace log
<khem> did python crash ?
<khem> returned -11 from dnf what does that indicate ?
<tgamblin> khem: Not sure (to either question)
<khem> so enable coredumpctl and then check it after this failure for any new entry on the machine
<khem> if there is, it should give some hints of crash
<khem> if nothing then it means something misbehaved it could be python itself or some behaviour change it introduced that unearthed somethign on top maybe in dnf itself or other py modules
<khem> you have to spread a wide net

<tgamblin> khem: thanks, got it set up now at least. Never had to use this tool before
<tgamblin> looks like it was indeed python3: Fri 2024-12-20 13:32:58 EST 3501474 1000 1000 SIGSEGV present /home/tgamblin/workspace/yocto/poky/build/tmp/work/qemux86_64-poky-linux/core-image-full-cmdline/1.0/recipe-sysroot-native/usr/bin/python3-native/python3.13 4.1M
<tgamblin> almost nothing in the stack trace: https://pastebin.com/dr4zv3Aa
<khem> yeah you need to enable debug info :)
<khem> I imagine python is coming from python-native ? if not then install debug packages on build host
jerrycash has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<khem> I think we intentionally remove -g from native package builds to save space
<khem> since we dont expect to debug the native tools that often
florian_kc has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<khem> crash seems to be in dnf py module ?
<khem> for native system
<khem> thats interesting adding dnf to IMAGE_INSTALL should not bring in native dnf into game, but what do I know
Jones42 has joined #yocto
<khem> for building python-native with debug on, change BUILD_FLAGS to have -g atleast for python3-native
Jones42_ has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]

<khem> good deal

<tgamblin> khem: that actually didn't seem to add anything to the trace. Maybe there's a different flag that needs to be added?
<tgamblin> I added '-g' to CPPFLAGS

<mischief> does anyone use own-mirrors in kirkstone? it seems like it's not being used to set premirrors. setting BB_ALLOWED_NETWORKS & SOURCE_MIRROR_URL just results in failure to reach upstream URLs, it doesn't try my mirror, and bitbake -e doesn't include the own-mirrors content in PREMIRRORs..
florian_kc has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<JaMa> mischief: than something is wrong in your setup, see the history in bitbake -e https://git.openembedded.org/openembedded-core/tree/meta/classes/own-mirrors.bbclass?h=kirkstone
<JaMa> mischief: https://lists.openembedded.org/g/openembedded-core/message/208794 sending the patch with proper subject prefix and cc steve is the regular way to request backports (plenty of examples on ML, this one was already partially requested to be backported)
<vmeson> Tyaku (missing), the full error log seems to be, "postinst returned 1, marking as unpacked only, configuration required on target." based on Googling for the string and finding:
<vmeson> I'm not sure where the string comes from off-hand.
<mischief> i think it's the same parsing cache bug i keep running into. clearing the cache seemed to fix it :-/
<tgamblin> vmeson: the dnf command in question already contains '-v'
<vmeson> tgamblin: hmmm, that's unfortunate.
<vmeson> me goes to read the "python3: upgrade 3.13.0 -> 3.13.1 " thread again and maybe kick off a build...
* vmeson even
<tgamblin> vmeson: you'll need to build core-image-full-cmdline to see it. coredumpctl shows this for the stack trace: /home/tgamblin/workspace/yocto/poky/build/tmp/work/qemux86_64-poky-linux/core-image-full-cmdline/1.0/recipe-sysroot-native/usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/libdnf/_common_types.so + 0x2adf2
<tgamblin> for some reason adding '-g' doesn't work to improve that if I add it to either CPPFLAGS in the python3 recipe (native or global), or if I force it onto TARGET_CPPFLAGS in local.conf
<vmeson> tgamblin: building (with some sstate) but it's only at 1000/59xx so it'll be a while.
<tgamblin> vmeson: thanks, will be nice to get another set of eyes on it
<tgamblin> vmeson: for the record, I did: strace -v -o cifc.log -s 2048 --follow-forks bitbake core-image-full-cmdline
<tgamblin> that was what got me 12.7 million lines

<vmeson> Guest45: looks fine except the build should be beside the top level directory. best to avoid mixing source and output especially if you have that dir under source control.
<vmeson> Guest45: also control sequence fomatting was fine for me but if the text was much longer and we'd all be asking you to use pastebin since IRC folks don't like long blocks of text.
<Guest45> good point. It would be of course inside .gitignore, but ...
paulg has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<Guest45> right, thanks for the hint. i guess i'm spoiled already by all those newer fancy communicators, supporting markdown and whatnots ;)
<vmeson> In WR Linux (which may not be a great example), we have a bit more of a heirarchy with a top level direcory then a layers directory with well, layers.
<vmeson> Guest45: get off my IRC channel you new-age kid! ;-)
