When using bootflow/bootstd with extlinux configuration files on a board with no video console (only serial console), is there a way that I'm missing to select anything but the default boot option?

mkorpershoek: bootflow select allows you to pick between mechanisms, so if the device can boot via extlinus stored on an eMMC, on on an SD card and maybe it's found a PXE option, you can pick between these three options, it doesn't seem to allow you to pick which option in a single extlinux configuration file is used.

ah sorry, I misunderstood the question

We boot on an RPI4. We've recently upgraded the U-Boot we are using and the latest version is from after the switch to bootstd (and text env). Previously we had an altbootcmd setup, as part of the boot failure mechanism we have that would switch the `boot_syslinux_conf` to a fallback extlinux.conf file when a boot failure case is detected (then
<MWelchUK>
calls the distroboot command). As bootstd doesn't use this env variable, this is currently broken...
<MWelchUK>
I'm currently trying to workout if there's a simple way for us to implement something similar with bootstd, but it doesn't look like such use cases are currently supported.

I don't know enough about bootmeth_extlinux sorry
<sigmaris>
if you have "prompt 1" in the extlinux config file, u-boot should prompt for which option to boot
<sigmaris>
see also the "timeout" option

sigmaris: Yes, that allows me to interactively pick it, but the mechanism we're trying to recreate was automatic when booting failed 3 times in a row after an update.
