<lovesegfault[m]1> Is there a reason this series was never accepted or commented on? https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/uboot/list/?series=263867
<lovesegfault[m]1> Turns out it's necessary to get NVMe boot working on the RPi CM4
<Forty-Bot> there's no reason; looks like it got dropped
<Forty-Bot> you can reply with Tested-By and hopefully it will get some attention
<Forty-Bot> if it fixes a bug that should help it get accepted

<Tartarus> I was hoping for more commentary especially since it's RFC, and some other nvme changes came in afterwards

<ide12> Ok, I have an intramfs image I want to load into memory and boot...
<ide12> I have successfully switched to the usb device, then I do "usb readall 0x810000"
<ide12> which should read the image and put it into memory, no?
<ide12> Or can I use usbboot?
<ide12> initramfs*
zibolo has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<Tartarus> er
<Tartarus> Is the initramfs not in a filesystem of some sort?
<ide12> currently its just on a usb flash stick
<ide12> so yes?
<ide12> or am I better of using bootp?
<Tartarus> I mean, you should put it in a filesystem and not raw write to flash
<Tartarus> and then load it to memory like everything else
<Tartarus> Some form of ramdiskaddr* is likely set in your environment and a good idea of where to load it to
<Tartarus> `ram*disk*addr*` in case something else ate the formatting on your end too
<ide12> Oh I think I may have misspoke, the image is in a filesystem in the root directory of this usb stick

<rfs613> ide12: so in that case, depending on which filesytem you have on the usb stick, you would use a command like 'fatload' or 'ext4load'
<ide12> heh, yeah this vendor ripped all that out
<ide12> i was successful in loading the image into memory
<ide12> but now im getting wrong image format
<ide12> when i do a bootm
<rfs613> you probably copied the raw filesystem into memory, yes?
<ide12> yes
<rfs613> bootm has no idea what that is... and it's non-trivial to fix that.
<ide12> ahh
<ide12> so what's my best bet? bootp?
<ide12> i dont have tftpboot
<rfs613> wow they really crippled it for you
<ide12> Yeah, it sucks
<ide12> they ripped off a bunch of opensource projects and then threw it all together to make this piece of garbage
<rfs613> you could take a different USB stick (one that has nothing important on it) and write your initramfs (or zImage or whatver you want to bootm) directly to it (no filesystem).
<ide12> hmmm
<ide12> never done that
sobkas has joined #u-boot
<rfs613> btw when you say initramfs, does this also include a kernel (and device tree)? Or where is kernel+dtb coming from?
littlebobeep has joined #u-boot
<ide12> I think so, its a OpenWRT image I built from source, so it should have all that
mckoan is now known as mckoan|away
<ide12> I have searched but cant find the process of writing this image to the usb stick without a filesystem
<Forty-Bot> dd
<ide12> yep, i did it...
<ide12> but when i ran bootm it just reset and loaded the original kernel :(
<ide12> oh typo in the bootm command
<ide12> hmmm im still getting a wrong image format error

<ide12> well, it might help if there was data in memory...
<ide12> idk why i cant get this image off the usb into memory

<ide12> So I do indeed have tftpboot
<ide12> But I am having a hell of a time getting my tftp server up
<ide12> I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling tftpd-hpa
<ide12> messing with configs...
<ide12> I keep getting "Failed to start LSB:"
<ide12> it was freaking windows firewall
<ide12> ugh
