<flyback> got u-boot to start building but apprentely there's a bug in binutils for the powerpc cross compiler toolchain from ubuntu
<flyback> and of course the eldk thing won't install either their installer script shits itself
<flyback> would be nice if the webpage actually linked a linux distro and version known to actually work with their shit

<marex> Peng_Fan: can you pull the value from DT instead ? If not, merge them
<Peng_Fan> marex: you mean get COUNTER_FREQUENCY from DT?
<Peng_Fan> configure counter frequency is at quite early stage, I am afraid DT is ready at that stage.
matthias_bgg has joined #u-boot
<marex> Peng_Fan: _try_ DT and if it is too early, then at least merge COUNTER_FREQUNCY and CONFIG_COUNTER_FREQUENCY into one, I agree
<Peng_Fan> marex ok, will try.
___nick___ has quit [Quit: https://quassel-irc.org - Chat comfortably. Anywhere.]
<marex> Peng_Fan: don't spend too much time on it, just check if DT is available, if not ... go with the config

<Peng_Fan> marex thanks. Will give a look.

<marex> j`ey: although this imx stuff will likely go partly through imx tree and partly through usb, here it is just all collected in one place
<j`ey> marex: I wasnt sure if it was a 'stuff upstream wont take' or a 'staging ground'
<marex> its like linux maintainer trees

<beanbag-> I made a ubuntu 10.04 vm and tried to install eldk 5.8
<beanbag-> same shit
<beanbag-> user@ubuntu10:/mnt$ sudo sh install.sh powerpc-4xx-softfloat
<beanbag-> Available SDK images for target 'powerpc-4xx-softfloat':
<beanbag-> Error: SDK image "gmae" is not available
<beanbag-> -e -e 'toolchain'-e , 'toolchain-qte'-e , 'toolchain-xenomai-qte'.
<beanbag-> user@ubuntu10:/mnt$
<beanbag-> so you add -e toolchain and it says illegal option -e
<beanbag-> so you change it to -s toolchain and it still errors
krichy has joined #u-boot
<krichy> Hi here! I own a rock-pi-3a, which is a rk3568 soc based board. It has 8G ram. I started with upstream u-boot with evb-rk3568_defconfig
<krichy> and succeeded to build u-boot, howewer, it detects only 1G of ram.
<krichy> I then started to check the code at https://github.com/radxa/u-boot.git, and it seems
<krichy> there is a lib/bidram.c, which detects the whole 8G memory, which is not present in upstream u-boot.
<krichy> Does anyone know if it is planned to be ported to upstream?
<krichy> Would it be hard to do?
<beanbag-> what linux are you using to build it
<beanbag-> and what compiler
<beanbag-> if Imight ask
<beanbag-> I can't help but curious
<krichy> i am building it on debian, with gcc
<beanbag-> just the packages built into debian ? or did you install eldk
<krichy> my root issue is that i would like to load grub-efi from u-boot. upstream u-boot does this well for all my other boards
<krichy> howewer when using radxa's u-boot on rock-pi-3a, it boots up grub, then the kernel, but the kernel complains about bad efi firmware. i guess that u-boot's efi support is broken.
<krichy> also, the booted linux sees only 4G ram, while u-boot shows 8G during boot.
<krichy> so, I would like to switch to upstream u-boot, and I assume that would work.
<beanbag-> wish I could help

<Pali> flyback: I'm using powerpc-linux-gnuspe-gcc cross compiler which is available on Debian Buster. It works fine for compiling U-Boot.
<beanbag-> then I might have to try making a debian buster vm next
<Pali> It is in deb package gcc-powerpc-linux-gnuspe which is available also on Ubuntu Bionic (new Ubuntu version dropped it)
<beanbag-> oh I can't
<beanbag-> shit forgot
<beanbag-> this version of u-boot is broken by newer versions of binutils
<Pali> what do you mean by _broken_?
<beanbag-> you get a linker error during compile
<beanbag-> known issue
<Pali> It does not compile/link? Or it links it incorrectly?
<Pali> Which error?
<beanbag-> ill have to fire up the other vm and do it again
<Pali> Because I successfully compiled U-Boot 2013 via this cross compiler, just need small modification to U-Boot source code
<beanbag-> yeah that's the build I am using
<beanbag-> 7 2013
<beanbag-> for powerpc 405gp
<beanbag-> what was the small mod you had to do
<Pali> please send paste for your build error, probably it would be similar to what I saw and what I fixed
<beanbag-> apprentely I already ripped everything out of the install :/
<beanbag-> erpc-linux-gnu/4.8 -lgcc -Map u-boot.map -o u-boot
<beanbag-> Makefile:588: recipe for target 'u-boot' failed

<Pali> You have to remove "PROVIDE(_GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_ = . + 4)" line from ld script if you are using new linker version
<beanbag-> running your patch
<beanbag-> it's just hanging there
<beanbag-> failed
<beanbag-> was I supposted to patch -p1 < that paste
<beanbag-> don't worry about it
