<austriancoder>
Should it be possible to apply dtbo in SPL? I am looking for a way to provide dram controller configuration in a sane way. I want to use one U-Boot binary for different RAM configurations. So I would like to load dtbo in SPL apply it and init RAM.
<austriancoder>
target platform is a TI am642
<marex>
austriancoder: look at board/dhelectronics/stm32
<marex>
austriancoder: it doesn't use DTO, it uses one DT with multiple memory config nodes
<marex>
austriancoder: might be easier

<austriancoder>
marex: thanks will have a look. DTO would make is easier to support memory with different timings/sizes when they get used in 1-4 years without touching and releasing a new internal version. But yeah.. will play with it.
<marex>
austriancoder: to answer your question , $ git grep overlay common/spl/spl_fit.c
<marex>
so yes, it is likely possible too
<marex>
I never tried/needed that myself
<marex>
austriancoder: hum, but wait ... who is initializing the DRAM, SPL itself ?
<marex>
austriancoder: i.e. do you need to patch U-Boot SPL control DT ?
<austriancoder>
SPL does the RAM init based on the U-Boot DTS via k3-ddrss driver
<marex>
so yeah, you need to patch the SPL DT
<marex>
austriancoder: how is your DT and DTO loaded into memory ?
<marex>
board/renesas/rcar-common/common.c fdtdec_board_setup() fdt_overlay_apply_node() _MIGHT_ be an option
<austriancoder>
marex: both are loaded into memory from emmc by some soc ROM code...
<austriancoder>
Ah cool
<marex>
austriancoder: then I think that ^ might be exactly what you need :)
<austriancoder>
I will take a break and will dive into the sources
<marex>
austriancoder: feel free to ask if you run into some problem, I might remember something more about that code
