<digetx> cyndis: what do you think about writing a new reference driver from scratch? it will be full featured, so we could test uapi fully, and then we will only need to figure out how to upstream it in parts, but at first we need to agree on how it should be structured

<cyndis> I think no. three reasons: a) in my professional experience, rewrites from scratch are very rarely a good idea. b) I actually need to have the new uapi's functionality upstream in finite time c) in my experience the current driver is quite functional and there is no blocker to changing it gradually (even in major ways if needed)
