Hi! I'm enjoying river thus far, but I'm a little confused about setting session-wide environment variables. I searched the provided chat archive and saw many people saying to set the variables *before* starting river, but how should I go about doing that? Is there a specific file I should shove them in or should I make my own shell script to do everything? I'm on void if that's relevant, been starting from TTY

sleeves: depends on your situation. it doesn't hurt (and i recommend) to create a wrapper script that sets the environment you need and starts river. another option is shell startup files for stuff you want even in the tty (IF these files are used)
<tiosgz>
or one can use pam config files as well

guys, I have a problem: I cant get this alternate keyboard to load. (https://www.neo-layout.org/Layouts/mine/ link to keyboard). It thankfully provides an xkb file, so I thought "nice, I can just do a quick `riverctl keyboard-layout-file /home/andi/.config/river/mine`" (I have downloaded the file and moved it to /home/andi/.config/river/mine but
<Vartroc>
I still get a `error: cannot parse file` What am I doing wrong here?

Vartroc: the kayboard-layout-file expects complete keyboard layouts. this layout is not complete, it includes an existing one an overrides it
<leon-p>
you should probably just follow the installation instructions on the website
<leon-p>
alternatively, there is also a dir spec for storing xkb layouts in your ~, which you likely can find documented somewhere

recently when i login to river, app the programs are being opeaned in floating mode, and Super Space doesnt work, but they are all tiled again when i reload the config.. what could be causing this?
<leon-p>
vim1729: sounds like the layout generator not being launched on river startup
<leon-p>
when you run the init script again (there is no reloading) it then launches it
<leon-p>
so make sure there isn't anything in your init that might block; remember it's just a shell script, everything that would block a sh script will block your init
<vim1729>
leon-p thank you i will recheck my init file :)

the more of these come up, the more I am convinced that my WM won't have an init, but either a regular config or a scheme script
