<gbrlsnchs> and to make xdg-desktop-portal-wlr work properly, don't forget to run `dbus-update-activation-environment WAYLAND_DISPLAY XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP` in your river init script

<Guest162> Hello. I am using Arch. Is there a recommended way to install River?
<Guest162> Is it like suckless tools where the preferred way is to clone the repo and compile it?

<Guest162> Is IRC typically this dead, or is it just this server?

<jokeyrhyme[m]> River is in the main Archlinux repository
<jokeyrhyme[m]> You don't need AUR and you don't need to compile it

<mohan43u> is anyone aware of any river layout manager which provides i3's tabbed mode? It will be helpful get the tabbed mode to river. I saw that rivercarro provides monotonic layout, is it same as tabbed mode in i3/sway?

<novakane> mohan43u: monocole is just the focused window taking all the usable space, not sure exactly how tabbed works
<novakane> you probably want to try stacktile instead
<NickH> Stacktile does a lot of stuff but AFAIU tabbed style is not really something that any river layout manager does (or even could do).
<NickH> Unless you consider "stack" in stacktile to be a close enough approximation to tabbed.
<NickH> A dislike of sway/i3 style of window management is why river exists.
<mohan43u> NickH: in my opinion, the tabbed style of i3/sway is perfect for laptops, rivertile/dwm style is better in desktops
<NickH> That might be your solution then: on machines where you like it and river on machines where you like.
<NickH> s/: on/: sway on/
<NickH> Nice thing is, is that you can pretty easily make them look and behave idetically other than the window management.
<mohan43u> NickH: It will be good to have both in my laptop, so that I can switch between layout managers depend on which display I use (whether docked to 4k mon or just laptop display).
<mohan43u> NickH: can a layout manager commit to the full size of screen (apart from the bars) rather then available size? if it is possible, then tabbed layout is possible.
<NickH> Sounds like you are describing monocole that rivercarro has.
<NickH> Have you tried it?
<mohan43u> NickH: not yet, let me try
<NickH> It just makes one window/client have full screen and lets you cycle/iterate through all the windows/clients on the stack.
<NickH> IIRC.
<NickH> I don't use it.

<mohan43u> novakane, NickH, thanks for your suggestions, I compiled rivercarro and it works great, exactly what I need. I have to fix build issues, and I sent patches to rivercarro and zig-wayland, hope it will improve those projects.
<waleee> I think ifreund mentioned in here that he updates zig-wayland to use the release versions of zig
<waleee> ah, but he has a "next-zig" branch for updates to follow master
angry_vincent has quit []
<novakane> mohan43u: as said in reply to the patch I will not accept patch for zig master fix, you'll need to use zig 0.10
<novakane> river and all deps follows zig stable release and your PR for zig-wayland will probably be not merged too
<novakane> waleee: the next-zig branch is usually only updated close to a new zig stable release
