<InPhase> It got to 155GB of total RAM consumption, then it gradually dropped back down, THEN it crashed.

<InPhase> Hmmm.. I checked syslog. The early ones, OOM killed it. Then I increased the RAM with swap to 512GB, and it did NOT trigger the OOM, but instead the kernel logged a segfault: kernel: [21899.642920] QThread[59809]: segfault at 10 ip 000076c1f6de7894 sp 000076c1da8b5268 error 4 in libtbb.so.12.5[76c1f6dce000+20000] likely on CPU 4 (core 2, socket 0)

<InPhase> If someone desires they could add in an undef parameter following that same template, which would undo a prior seed by having the logic be "when undef received as seed, call initialize_rng". The template is there.

<InPhase> The only tricky part was sorting out the right logic for reseeding when someone is hammering the preview button like a crazy person. But the initialize_rng I wrote handles that scenario fine, so it would also work for a bunch of undef calls in rapid succession.

<J24k> seems seeds are never undef but predevined by some random system seed

<pca006132> it will probably become the recommended configuration
<pca006132> tbb makes things about 4-5x faster, if your computer is beefy enough
<pca006132> but on some systems (most systems currently), onetbb combined with pstl will have memory leak
<pca006132> but we still want to use pstl to replace thrust, because we don't like nvidia :)
<pca006132> so users have to be careful about their system configuration in order to enable tbb, and we recommend users to not enable tbb when they are not sure about it
<pca006132> you either need older version of tbb, or onetbb + GCC 13 or newer (llvm with libc++ works, but this is not an option for linux AFAIK, e.g. cpython is not happy about bindings linking with libc++)
<pca006132> I like stress testing the library and I wish we can do more about memory consumption, but it is a hard problem
