<kintel>
JordanBrown Nice, that can be a good productivity/motivation boost. Btw., I found that ninja mostly ends up choosing a close-to-optimal -j value
<kintel>
My record is 46 seconds using -DCMAKE_UNITY_BUILD=ON
<kintel>
(on my Mac M1 laptop)
<JordanBrown>
I did say that it was a Camry :-)
<kintel>
heh, but that's a pretty nice CPU, should be able to do -j 30 if you have enough RAM
<JordanBrown>
I cranked it up until it was showing 100% throughout most of the build.
<JordanBrown>
I don't think it was close to running out of RAM. But of course I want to have enough RAM left over that the compilers, header files, et cetera are all coming out of disk cache.
<kintel>
Oh, is this on msys2 ?
<JordanBrown>
yes
<kintel>
on clang or gcc?
<JordanBrown>
gcc
<JordanBrown>
at least as far as I know. It was the default msys2 build.
<kintel>
try clang - I've had performance issues on msys2 gcc vs. other OS on the same system
<JordanBrown>
I don't know how to select that.
<kintel>
I believe you just run a different msys2 shell; they have launchers for the different variants
<JordanBrown>
Will look at it.
<kintel>
..probably not a huge deal as you can already build faster than most people can think :(
<JordanBrown>
But yes, I expect that it will make development much nicer. I would shudder any time I made a change that touched Value.h.
<teepee>
hmm, I may have a similar one in the new framework notebook
<teepee>
normal mode ninja run is also 3 minutes and does not need all of the 32gb
<teepee>
I do like the power-saver mode though, needs 8 minutes, but does not even spin up the fans
<teepee>
with clang, not sure gcc would be ok with the 32gb :)
<teepee>
13th Gen Intel i7-1370P (20) @ 5.000GHz
<teepee>
right that sounds totally different
<teepee>
P instead of 0 ?

<teepee>
meh, tor bridge is a bit unstable lately :(
<teepee>
normal build is real 3m15,485s with much more CPU load, I guess I'll leave the unibuild enabled :)
<JordanBrown>
teepee I do wonder why yours is 5GHz and mine is 2.1GHz.
<JordanBrown>
But I need to run now. Later.
<teepee>
that's what neofetch says, let me check vendor specs
<teepee>
for me it's good night :)
<teepee>
5.2GHz Max Turbo, 2.1 Base Frequency
<teepee>
uh, mine has Maximum Turbo Power 64 W, the i7-13700 has 219 W
<teepee>
that's quite a difference :)

what would be a strong joint to connect 12inch sections of 3d printed ruler?

linext_: Most importantly, it CANNOT have its lines running perpendicularly to the length of the ruler.
<InPhase>
linext_: If you mean a permanent joint, like epoxying them together, then you probably want something like an insert that has an almost pointy tip in the middle of the ruler, and 45 degree angles coming forward toward that tip on both sides.

<InPhase>
linext_: You'd just need to experiment with variations of that sort of idea to find one that is printable without clearance issues, so that your ruler sizing stays valid.

We just need to compartmentalize with the church cross builders
<phryk>
Do we? Pretty sure those can be seen as dual-use goods. :)
