CGAL(F6) takes about 30 secs but goes ok
<guso78k>
but when I try to export STL((F7) i have to wait yet another minute until the file->export stl form appears. Actually i dont understand, whats happening, because according to my understanding the Trianlge data should already be present. Just wondering if the issues happens only locally or if others also see this issue.
<peepsalot>
there's a lot of inefficiencies in the STL export code. ochafik was working on some big improvements, but abruptly stopped work on it before tests were passing https://github.com/openscad/openscad/pull/4643
<guso78k>
I am just wondering, where STL export code could spend CPU time.(If exporting to OBJ instead i would understand as there vertices need to convert to indexed mode instead)
<guso78k>
will analyze whats in side the PR still
<peepsalot>
hmm, actually F7 is instant for me in that example
<guso78k>
peepsalot, thank you for the feedback . appears to me it must be an issue on my side. i tested with 2021.2
<peepsalot>
dunno, maybe you have some weird network drive that is causing file dialog to open slowly?
<peepsalot>
i mostly just run the nightly on linux mint: 2023.07.31.nightly (git 87bf17e)
<peepsalot>
anyways, the inefficiencies of STL export i mentioned AFAIK should only be apparent *after* choosing a path/filename and confirming to save.
<peepsalot>
delay of the dialog displaying seems odd and I don't know what could cause something like that

just wondering: is it possible that some heavy background processes are still working when Render(F6) says finished and rendered model is already displayed ?
