< andrewmw94> naywhayare: I think I fixed the memory leaks I had, as valgrind doesn't report any errors. However, I'm not sure about the API.
< andrewmw94> could you tell me when you are free to discuss it with me?

< siddharth185> Hi
< siddharth185> Anyone from mlpack here?
< naywhayare> hi siddharth185
< naywhayare> I am here for about 10 or 15 minutes before I have to go
< siddharth185> Okay
< siddharth185> so i want to contribute to the project
< siddharth185> what are the basic skills required?
< siddharth185> I have a good knowledge on ML
sumedhghaisas has joined #mlpack
< siddharth185> apart from that?
< sumedhghaisas> naywhayare: any luck with that issue??
< naywhayare> sunedhghaisas: I am traveling and have not had a chance to look into it. tomorrow I am finally home
< naywhayare> siddharth185: a knowledge of C++ is very helpful
< naywhayare> but other than that, anyone can contribute; it's an open source project
< siddharth185> okay
< siddharth185> So how do you suggest I start?
< naywhayare> a good place to start might be the tutorials on the website
< siddharth185> I am new to FOSS
< siddharth185> okay
< siddharth185> but they are algorithm tutorials
< siddharth185> not anything specific about contributions
< naywhayare> once you are comfortable with running mlpack programs and using it for simple tasks, then you can start digging into the code a bit
< sumedhghaisas> naywhayare: ohh finally coming home?? how was the tournament??
< naywhayare> actually sending a contribution can be done by opening a ticket on Trac and attaching your contribution
< siddharth185> Okay
< naywhayare> sumedhghaisas: it went okay; I think I finished 28th of about 100. hoping for better luck next year :-)
< siddharth185> I want to work on algorthmic problems rather than software issues
< naywhayare> siddharth185: that's good, there are many algorithmic issues
< naywhayare> however, quality of the code itself is very important, so software issues can't be entirely ignored
< naywhayare> when you are more comfortable with mlpack, take a look through the opsn tickets on Trac (http://www.mlpack.org/trac/)
< naywhayare> *open tickets
< siddharth185> But I can't do much without a good knowledge of C++ right?
< naywhayare> you are probably right. a good knowledge of C++ is important
< siddharth185> Okay thank you so much
< siddharth185> I'll work on C++ first!
< naywhayare> the mlpack codebase makes fairly heavy use of weird C++ features such as a little bit of template metaprogramming
< naywhayare> sure, no worries
< naywhayare> good luck! :-)
< naywhayare> I have to go for now... I will be back maybe later today but probably tomorrow
< sumedhghaisas> naywhayare: great :)
< sumedhghaisas> see you tomorrow then...
