<Wizzup>
but icd2 doesn't realise it failed and keeps blinking
<inky>
my mz617 is in my town now.
<inky>
so again, may it be there's a raw, untested manual i can follow when i take it today?

dsc_: Wizzup: the qt platform plugin could transform context menus into icd applet style dialogs
<uvos__>
that would be really cool for further qt integration
<uvos__>
hopefull i will find the time to work one something like that soon
<uvos__>
inky: yeah mz617 bricks if you look at it funny

you cannot switch to portrait mode in qemu, right?
<inky>
can i?
<gnarface>
i bet there's some way

i think it's just a software hook called by a daemon monitoring an accelerometer state. there should be some way to trigger it manually for testing, then you can just manually change the shape of the qemu window
<sicelo>
resizing the window might work... or might additionally need a dbus call to force the rotation
<Wizzup>
inky: you can with dbus, but it depends on qemu/virtualbox driver behaving
<Wizzup>
some screens/drivers still just turn black permanently
<freemangordon>
Wizzup: could be a bug
<freemangordon>
steps to reproduce?
<freemangordon>
ah, icd does not realize
<freemangordon>
plugin does not report error it seems
<gnarface>
i'm far from a qemu expert, but i would recommend starting with "-vga virtio" first
<Wizzup>
freemangordon: it does not report the error, but I also don't know why it errors :(
<Wizzup>
gnarface: yeah virtio is afaik the most buggy of them all :D
<gnarface>
Wizzup: i think YMMV depending on which desktop video driver you're using it under. for me with amdgpu it's the one that gives me the least trouble when resizing the window

<freemangordon>
Wizzup: well, those are 2 separate issues :)
<gnarface>
there was something else too though, a menu setting i had to disable that i couldn't find a config file or command-line switch for, and it's always on by default and i have to turn it off every time... "zoom to fit" or something like that?
<gnarface>
basically, if i turned that one off, i could trust the window to resize itself properly, and if not, all kinds of weird shit could happen when the screen res changes on the fly
<gnarface>
but i think it also depends a lot on how well your video drivers integrate with virtio and i think it varies a lot, especially if you're using nvidia
<Wizzup>
gnarface: why would you use amdgpu in a vm? I didn't think people would have a spare gpu to pass through to maemo
<Wizzup>
I figured it'd just be a system without an actual gpu in the vm
<gnarface>
Wizzup: no no, i'm not saying i used amdgpu in the vm or did video passthrough, i am merely alleging that the quality of the virtio experience in your VM may heavily depend on whether your desktop that the VM is running on is using nvidia or amd
<gnarface>
probably with intel or modesetting it varies too, but i haven't used those as much
<gnarface>
i did this a bit with nvidia drivers before switching to amd, and... things were different, at the fringes
<Wizzup>
sure, it's just not super relveant to the actual application of running maemo in a vm
<Wizzup>
and I'm sayhing if you do that without pci passthrough, the screen will likely turn black if you totate it
<Wizzup>
rotate it
<gnarface>
yea, but, i'm saying it might be relevant, and directly speculating that what video driver you're using outside the VM can directly impact the likelyness of whether it turns black when you rotate it
<gnarface>
but maybe you had a specific cause of the black screen in mind that you know is not relevant to this, i'm speaking from more general experience of running random other things in qemu
<Wizzup>
I don't think it would, but you can try it :D
<gnarface>
that's also where i gathered the conclusion that "-vga virtio" is the way to go, but i wanted to clarify i didn't come to that conclusion until after i'd ditched the nvidia card, so ymmv

I saw recently that there was a port for the PinePhone Pro in the works. Is there a stable branch available?
<Wizzup>
not yet, but it's good that you bring this up
<gnarface>
yo Gary812
<gnarface>
i'm here too
<Gary812>
cool
<Gary812>
I've been sharing some nice photos using harbour-pinhole using the pinephone and sharing on the pine64 channels.
<Gary812>
I know there are folks itching to load up leste on the ppp
<Gary812>
I'm partly the problem for getting them excited...;-)
<gnarface>
someone around here reported it booting some weeks back, i dunno what was involved in getting it up though
<Wizzup>
so I think it was inserting a xrandr call at the start or forcing the rotation correctly, I can chec kthe irc logs
<Wizzup>
since then I switched to using maemo leste as my main phone and I've found a bunch of issues I'm prioritising for myself, so that I can still make calls etc :)
<Wizzup>
I will try to pick this up soon, rafael2k also has one.
