Hello
<DanRanCan>
I have maemo leste installed on my n900. I am trying to ssh into it from my mac but have no idea how to get an ssh server to work on maemo leste. Any suggestions?
<Wizzup>
it already runs a ssh server by default
<Wizzup>
so you probably just need to know the ip of the n900
<Wizzup>
(and connect it to your wifi)
xmn has joined #maemo-leste
<DanRanCan>
So i just plug it in via usb on my mac, and search for the address?
neimsaci has joined #maemo-leste
<Wizzup>
ah, you didn't specify you wanted to use usb
<DanRanCan>
or does it need to be connected to wifi
<Wizzup>
so this is also possible, but recently I am not sure if the n900 itself sets up the ip
<Wizzup>
the n900 should set itself to 192.168.42.1 - if it doesn't, try 'ifconfig usb0 up 192.168.42.1' on the phone

<DanRanCan>
Excellent. I am gonna try that now, because it didn't set itself to that I don't think.
<DanRanCan>
What if my router is on a different subnet thean 192.168.42.1
<DanRanCan>
like, my router address is 192.168.50.1
<Wizzup>
if you use usb it doesn't really matter what your router is on
<Wizzup>
it's unlikely to use 192.168.42.0/24 :)

Wizzup: i sent you an email (08/28) with other ucm files, working well with earphone and probably better for -devel ATM
<arno11>
now i'll try to add fmtx but that's not so easy

<maemish_>
I renew my question here. Is there any closed source packages which give trouble with Leste or some other topic you would like get in the eyes of former maemo developers? I could have a channel to reach them.
<sicelo>
arno11: add fmtx to ucm? i think you would add it in HiFi, and set switches accordingly. it would then be up to whoever/whatever starts the fmtx to select the correct device in the hifi verb
<arno11>
i already tried few weeks ago and get lot of troubles adding fmtx in HiFi profile. i'll try to create a specific profile to see if it works better
<Wizzup>
ok, will deploy today
<Wizzup>
arno11: great @ fmtx !
<Wizzup>
maemish_: there's definitely source we could use for several pkgs

for powerVR maybe ?

Just make a request post with relevant questions about help with certain packages to those who will understand with link to here and and I will forward it. I am a mere end user so you should make the post for devs.
<maemish_>
Let's see if we reach the right people.
<maemish_>
At the moment trying to reach Aapo Rantalainen, old TMO member. Not sure if he is alive cause all updates on many places are old.
<maemish_>
He would be of great help with browsers.

I don't think much of maemo browser info is still relevant, all the gecko stuff has changed
<freemangordon>
I can try to port that next week to leste, if needed
<freemangordon>
hmm, gconf
<freemangordon>
we shall decide on a replacement
<Wizzup>
for now, gconf, since we still use it... :)
<Wizzup>
and gsettings is the 'new' one

Wizzup: I'll try to port to GSettings, does not make sence to introduce yout another dependency
<freemangordon>
*yet
<uvos>
well besides mce we dont have anything ported to gsettings
<uvos>
so we could still choose anything really
<freemangordon>
uvos: right, but I am about to port fmtx related packages from fremantle
<freemangordon>
and I think there gsettings will be ok
<freemangordon>
at first glance at least
<freemangordon>
also, besides icd2, I think everything else should be ok with gsettings, no?
<Wizzup>
freemangordon: right now most is gconf
<Wizzup>
but yeah I think we can have both at the same time
<uvos>
i mean having both gets complicated because stuff has to interact
<uvos>
icd2 can be made to work with gsettings too
<uvos>
its just slightly more work
<freemangordon>
still, my point is that it makes no sense to me to not port fmtx stuff to gsetting from the very beginning
<uvos>
i gues you could make icd2 use dconf directly and have it keep its "illigal" settings structure while still haveing everthing in dconf
<uvos>
sure
<uvos>
im not objecting

a specific fmtx profile causes jack troubles (as usual and don't ask me why) OTOH it works now in hifi profile with no troubles, disabling on the fly the speakers, enabling fmtx + headset.
<arno11>
porting fmtx stuff from fremantle is the best option anyway
<arno11>
freemangordon: thx in advance :)
<sicelo>
yes it makes sense having the fmtx in hifi profile :-)
<arno11>
yes indeed but i was not able to get it working previously
<sicelo>
thanks for your work
<arno11>
no probs, as well i can try to add an exec command to start v4l stuff from ucm. it's theoretically possible but didn't work the last time i tried
* sicelo
really doesn't like that option, but sure
<freemangordon>
what exactly has to be don in v4l from ucm profile?
<freemangordon>
I will stop for today, will try to find some sapre time tomorrow to continue

sicelo: is TV OUT stuff supposed to be added in UCM ?
<sicelo>
i would say no :-p
<sicelo>
at least not until we have integrated tv out properly, i guess
<sicelo>
what do you think?
<arno11>
ok, just to know. because it should be easy to control using JackControl "TV OUT" and an exec command (if it works)
<Wizzup>
ok :)
<arno11>
thx

<uvos>
how is alsa involved in tv out on n900
<uvos>
is it just the audio
<uvos>
or is the jack routing of the video signal done via alsa? (ugh)
<sicelo>
the tv out also provides audio to the tv

maybe it is :D

:-P

even HDMI features in alsa, for the same obvious reason
