<Jmabsd> jakllsch,*: Is anyone selling/making a bifurcation/splitter of 4 lane PCIe to 2x 2 lane PCIe lol
<Jmabsd> i'll ask #hardware lol. anyhow there is https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/qm2-2p10g1tb/specs/hardware/QM2-2P10G1TB.pdf , PCI switch chip + 2 M.2 slots + 10gb ethernet

<Jmabsd> Great, Radxa clarified re Rock5 SBC: "
<Jmabsd> 1x M.2 M Key, PCIe 3.0 x4 lanes, for NVMe SSD
<Jmabsd> 1x M.2 E Key, PCIe 2.1 x1 lanes, for WiFi6
<Jmabsd> "

<Jmabsd> Tenkawa,*: I ask Radxa to make a stackable M.2 bifurcation board with 2x M.2, also a switched board with 4x slots.
<Jmabsd> This way you'll be able to put 1-3 good SSD:s + 10gbe ethernet on the RK3588.

<mps> yes, RPis are made for children to learn and not to be used seriously, and I wouldn't ever buy RPi because of broadcom
<mps> (sorry again for OT)
<Jmabsd> Yeah the Broadcom aspect sucks. You mean they contain unknown flash and whatever easter egg features
<Jmabsd> mps: I am really impressed with the prospects of the RK3588. I'm asking Radxa to make a forking board so on your 32GB RK3588 SBC you can have both a big NVMe SSD and 10gbs ethernet. And the idle power is 0.5W.
<mps> Jmabsd: if I want/need to buy new arm64 also I would seriously take RK3588 to consider
<Jmabsd> :+1: The LX2 has 8-10 weeks delivery time. I guess it has a bit better IO. And it supports 64GB (ECC?) RAM. But its idle power is 20W. And unsure if it's really faster. Also, Apple M1 tends to have idle power 7, for a home server RK3588 is competetive with idle power 0.5W.
<mps> I always put openness as the most important feature
<phh> uh, where does that 0.5w idle power come from? like you measured it?
<phh> i don't think you can fit an idling 10G ethernet phy in 0.5W

<Jmabsd> phh: Some forum
<Jmabsd> phh: that would be without 10g, the RK3588 has built in 2x 1000mbps RJ45

<Jmabsd> mps: Indeed openness is the most important. I guess Power9 (and Power10?) is better in this respect. how screwed up is SiFive RISCV really, their service software is closed source forever?.
<mps> Jmabsd: yes, this is also problem with riscv ecosystem because board designers/manufactuters are free to add anything, but at least CPU is open
<mps> one could make free system using fpga
<Jmabsd> yea. well whoever makes a fully free CPU will get demand.
<mps> I hope no one will put broadcom chips on riscv SBCs :)
<jakllsch> heh

<macc24> how to handle devices with fans?
<macc24> in dt
<macc24> do i modify rk3399's thermal zone to include a barebones fan curve
<macc24> and set fan as a cooling device?
