<fuxxy_laptop> in the busybox "ash" shell, I'm trying to compare a string variable in an upstream config file to a number. {{ if [ $($WAIT_NETWORK_TIME) >= 0 ]; then }} appears to work, but I"m also presented the error ./checkConfig.sh: line 23: 300: not found
<fuxxy_laptop> aha trial and error for the win! if [ $(($WAIT_NETWORK_TIME)) -gt 0 ];
<minimal> fuxxy_laptop: shouldn't that be if [ $(($WAIT_NETWORK_TIME)) -ge 0 ]; then
<minimal> fuxxy_laptop: "-gt" is greater than, "-ge" is great than or equal to
<fuxxy_laptop> minimal, it should, trying to keep it simple for testing. I'd prefer the >= symbol though, but you're right
<minimal> fuxxy_laptop: you'd prefer >= even though it is not a valid method?
<fuxxy_laptop> the symbols apparently don't work, even if escaped by a \
<minimal> fuxxy_laptop: wouldn't you prefer your script to actually work
<fuxxy_laptop> I didn't know it wasn't valid until just now
<minimal> yes they don't work as -lt, -gt, -le, -ge etc are the NUMERIC operators
<fuxxy_laptop> I happened across a couple stackexchange posts that said they worked if escaped
<minimal> if you want to check if a number variable equals 0 you say "[ $var -eq 0 ]"
<minimal> whereas is you want to check if a string variable matches a string you say "[ $var = "abc" ]"
<fuxxy_laptop> That was throwing an error as well, since the upstream variable I'm sourcing is "300"

<minimal> putting "$(( ))" around it should force it to be a number
<fuxxy_laptop> yep, hence the $(($WAIT_NETWORK_TIME))
<fuxxy_laptop> thank you for confirming, though!
<minimal> be care what you read online as it may refer to bash-specific ways to do stuff
<minimal> shellcheck is good for scanning your scripts
<fuxxy_laptop> Yes, I keep running into that. And searching with "ash" in quotes returns bash results, as well
<minimal> perhaps try search for "posix shell" instead
<fuxxy_laptop> so I'm having to search with -bash -dash
<minimal> shellcheck -s ash <yourscript>
<fuxxy_laptop> What about the "AND" unary operator?
<fuxxy_laptop> if [ "$WAIT_NETWORK" == "true" ] -a [ $(($WAIT_NETWORK_TIME)) -ge 0 ];
<minimal> fuxxy_laptop: dunno, never use it, use "&&" instead.
<fuxxy_laptop> I get "sh: ]: unknown operand
<fuxxy_laptop> "
<fuxxy_laptop> okay, I'll give that one a shot
<minimal> don't remember if it is posix-compliant
<minimal> like I said try shellcheck
<fuxxy_laptop> I"ll have to install that on another box and copy the script over, since it's not included in LE10

<shibboleth> so, for some reason kodi/libreelec won't power on my amp during boot/on wake, just my display. which is weird, seeing as how the rpi is connected to the amp which is in turn connected to the display
<shibboleth> video passthrough and ARC is working nicely
<shibboleth> tried adjusting the settings for pulseeight in settings->system->input, for some reason selecting "connected to..." to "avr/amp" gets reset to "tv" after a reboo
<LEBot> [slack] <popcornmix> shibboleth: could you create a post in the libreelec forum where we can get more info?
<shibboleth> i don't have a forum acct
<LEBot> [slack] <popcornmix> No one does until they create one.
<mack> There are lots of people, especially on irc, who will never go through the annoyance of making a throw-away email and throw-away account on forums.
<shibboleth> well, that's part of the issue, but not the real hurdle. i'm assuming registering through tor will be next to impossible
<shibboleth> but eh... since we're all here and not much else is going on in here, by the aversion towards using this forum/medium?

<shibboleth> while tv/amp are off: https://paste.debian.net/hidden/3deb3c80/
<shibboleth> just a stab in the dark here, but i'm guessing this is due to the amp being detected as "on" in standby (if i disable the amp "standby through" cec-ctl sees nothing)
<shibboleth> explicitly turning on the amp (low-power->on) turns on the display but not vice versa
<shibboleth> also, if i had to guess, were i connect the rpi to the amp *through* the tv and do arc back down to the amp this wouldn't be an issue, but that is less convenient. no one else run into any issues with pioneer vsx amps?
<LEBot> [slack] <popcornmix> irc isn't something I regularly check, so unless someone pings me I'll miss any follow ups.
<LEBot> [slack] <popcornmix> I'm more interested in the issue of using second hdmi port for AVR. I've tried to reproduce using latest beta bootloader (09 22) and it reboots fine. Are you sure earlier bootloader has really fixed it (rather that just made it less likely).
<shibboleth> ah, right, i tried using both hdmis the first time around
<shibboleth> hang on splash with 0209 and 0208, but the stock LE 0802 eeprom worked
minimal has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<shibboleth> turns out the amp mitigates a different issue (having to de-whitelist 2160p@23.98/24 willy-nilly depending on source)
<LEBot> [slack] <popcornmix> Does AVR have a display connected, or is it headless?
<shibboleth> it has a display, pio vsx 931

<shibboleth> first noticed the issue with "prey (2022)". the 2160 non-hdr source media is @24, but i had to de-whitelist @24 and whitelist @23.98 for it to work
<shibboleth> with other sources its the other way around
<shibboleth> no such issue when going through the amp though
