weird-ish issue. i've connected an rpi4 to a display through hdmi1, audio receiver through hdmi2. this way i won't have to rely on the receivers supported resolutions/color depths and i avoid any extra delays introduced by having the video go through the receiver

now, this works wonders, np there. thing is, once i *reboot* the pi gets stuck at the color splash

but if i do a cold boot (attach power) or power-cycle it does not get stuck at the splash

this will become an issue the next time i need to reboot the pi remotely, ideas?

ok, adjusting vc4-kms-v3d overlay to include nohdmi1 seems to have worked. still audio on hdmi1(2), i don't need video out on it
