<rdo> On the 10.0.2 release page it says for RPi2-3: Note that GPU accelerated H265 decoding is no longer available in LE 10 and future versions.
<rdo> Can anybody tell, why future versions are excluded? Is it a legal topic, not a technical one, that it is known that it cannot be resolved?
<LEBot> [slack] <jernej> rdo: it's technical reason
<LEBot> [slack] <jernej> RPi3 doesn't have H265 HW decoder, just very clever code optimizations in ffmpeg
<LEBot> [slack] <jernej> since Kodi 19 dropped platform specific decoders (imx, rpi, etc.) and uses platform independent (drmprime), those kind of optimizations are not feasible anymore
tulpa_ has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<rdo> But does that mean that RPi3 can decode H265 or is the platform independent implementation too slow?

<LEBot> [slack] <jernej> RPi3 can decode HEVC if a ton of software optimizations is done in right places and only then about 1080p. These do not exist for new method and it's unlikely they will be (re)implemented.

<colo> it's a shame that so much hardware potential has to go to waste this way, though

<rdo> jernej, thanks for the explanation and the link.
<rdo> Does anybody know the state of wetek play 2 support in LE11? I saw there are images available and I am wondering if I should replace my wetek play with a wetek play 2.
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> @colo Just keep using LE9.2 which has the optimisations. Nobody is forcing you to update and “waste” potential
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> @rdo WP2 is/will be supported by LE11 and the upstream codebase is quite usable on older hardware, but legacy kernel images (9.2 is the last) are more fully featured. There is zero support for the internal tuners btw.
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> As S905 devices are all obsolete by now I wouldn't actively seek out WP2 as an update from WP1 unless you're being offered the box super cheap :)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> The current worldwide wallet squeeze does mean a few more folks are interested in refurbing older devices instead of getting new ones

<shibboleth> so, i was looking at the libreec wiki and it doesn't really mention alsa. what's the deal with LE audio, is pulseaudio used for non-bt audio?
<LEBot> [slack] <jernej> no

<shibboleth> ok. how would i go about debugging intermittent audio issues that only happens when using usb dacs?
<shibboleth> essentially, "usb sound card", burr-brown/texas instruments pcm2702
<shibboleth> oh, and to make things even more exciting: only happen while using tvh htsp client on libreelec but then also affect ui sounds and persist until reboot
<LEBot> [slack] <jernej> good question, it could be driver or Kodi issue. This one for audio specialists.
<shibboleth> i did an alsa-info dump before and after/while the issue made itself known
<shibboleth> no diffs
<shibboleth> issue persists until i reboot or reconnect the dac *or* switch channel a couple of more times in pvr client
<shibboleth> from the looks of it, this *mostly* happens when switching between channels with 16-bit and 32-bit audio. but can also happen while skipping back/forth in pvr recordings
<shibboleth> and if the issue happened while on a 16-bit channel it will only be fixed when switching to 32-bit channels, never when switching to another 16-bit channel
<shibboleth> nada in kodi logs, dmesg, etc
