<AlexisBRENON[m]>
Hi all. I read that LE 10.0.2 is finally RPi3 compatible. I decided to give it a try.
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
However, while the OS is starting, Kodi repeatedly crash with the following error message in journalctl: kodi.sh[3784]: ERROR: Unable to create GUI. Exiting
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
And the following one in "/storage/.kodi/temp/kodi.log": 2022-05-09 11:13:39.020 T:4051 FATAL <general>: CApplication::CreateGUI - unable to init windowing system
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
Searching via google, I found some post about overridin the `cma` boot option, but some saying the opposite... I am a little bit lost. Do you already heard of this issue?

iirc i ran into an issue upgrading from le9 to le10 for rpi2/3
<shibboleth>
incompatible var in config.txt, iirc le updater points out which
<shibboleth>
set gpu_mem to 76, commend all other gpu_mem_foo
<shibboleth>
comment force_turbo
<shibboleth>
i've found that le10 on 2/3 is somewhat unstable if you're using it as a kodi pvr client (ffmpeg crashes in the stack), increasing cma to 512 solved it. but the default won't affect regular usage or prevent kodi from starting

I'm a r.pi ignorant, what is cma= exactly supposed to do? It seems to be about a pool of dynamically reconfigurable RAM to be available to arm vs. to videocore/gpu?

shibboleth: Is there a way to see some kind of logs from the updater ?
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
After update the "/flash/config.txt" file has very few entries (gpu_mem, hdmi_ignore_cec_init and include distroconfig.txt) compared to config.txt.old (which contain force_turbo and gpu_mem_foo entries).
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
I don't use PVR on Kodi, only library media playing, so I'll give it a try.
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
jelly: I don't know what CMA is exactly... It seems to be some kind of memory pool. I suppose that cma= is supposed to change the size of this pool.
<shibboleth>
if that works, the issue is related to some oddity with your kodi profile and not really-really caused by libreelec
<shibboleth>
are you usinhg
<shibboleth>
are you using hdmi or composite video out?

<shibboleth>
also, worth noting that le10 uses a diff graphics driver than le9 did for rpi2/3. try what i said re fresh kodi profile, if that doesn't work paste.debian.net /flash/ config.txt, cmdline.txt, distroconfig.txt. also, since you're asking for assistance maybe responding more than say... once every three hours is a good idea

jelly, dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d,cma-512 or dtoverlay=cma,cma-512 would pre-allocate 512 mem for graphics usage. the new graphics driver is supposed to be able to allocate sufficient memory on the fly making this redundant but i've found that kodi on le crashes (rather, libav/"ffmpeg") like... two times out of ten when tuning to interlaced iptv streams
<shibboleth>
manually pre-allocating 512 eliminates this issue (for some reason)
<shibboleth>
i sincerely doubt AlexisBRENON[m]s issue is related to this, but i don't know. he's expecting us to track his issue for hours on end while he's off taking selfies and what have you
<shibboleth>
at least we have the dramatic element of.... suspense
<jelly>
good to know as almost all of my streams rebroadcasted via tvheadend are 576i, 720i or 1080i50
<shibboleth>
i've only seen this on rpi2/3, rpi4 is doing fine on its own
<shibboleth>
sorry, that's dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3, not fkms
<jelly>
I have a couple rpi3, one for mom, one for dad...
<jelly>
old folks still watch tv

and young folks?

any devs? figured out a way to make LE10 do full rgb on hdmi, not sure how to make it default/persist
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> depends on kernel driver, if it's even possible - what device?
<shibboleth>
/usr/bin/modetest -M vc4 -w 32:"Broadcast RGB":1 in autostart.sh will set the flag, but you'll then have to change resolution to whatever (and back) inside kodi
<shibboleth>
works for both rpi3 and 4
<shibboleth>
/usr/bin/modetest -M vc4 -w 41:"Broadcast RGB":1 for rpi4 second hdmi

you can do the same for 37:colorspace and set it to 10/30 12/36 if your monitor supports it to prevent unnecessary modeshifts if your primary sources are 10/12 anyway
<shibboleth>
and for some reason, kodi on LE respects the colorspace setting when starting kodi, no need to change res, but not for full/limited rgb?
<shibboleth>
atm le+kodi doesn't respect the kodi full/limited rgb in settings->system->video on kms
<shibboleth>
works on fkms, but that opens a whole other can of worms
<shibboleth>
ofc, kodi cant be running whole using modetest to change it
<shibboleth>
either autostart.sh or systemctl stop kodi -> modetest, systemctl start kodi -> still limited rgb, change res in kodi -> full rgb
<shibboleth>
the visible difference is... *huge* for plasma/oled displays. lcds included, but they don't necessarily have the contrast levels necessary meaning details can end up drowning in black
<shibboleth>
back on le9 you could achieve this with hdmi_pixel_encoding, but kms doesn't care :)

ok, if you add the modeset to autostart.sh and for example set 1080i in cmdline.txt and only whitelist 1080p resolutions in kodi it will start up with full rgb range
<shibboleth>
bit of a hack, though? wondering how no one has noticed this before me, huge diff in video quality/fidelity

Finally, not so much suspense... Starting with a fresh Kodi config (mv .kodi .kodi.bak) fix the issue. Now I will try to find the config/addon cause the issue.
<shibboleth>
you can transplant .kodi.bak/userdata/Database+Textures to avoid re-indexing library
<shibboleth>
just stop kodi, delete (or rename) both folders from fresh kodi profile, cp -p -r (or mv) the folders from kodi.bak/userdata to .kodi/userdata
<shibboleth>
same for sources.xml, etc
<shibboleth>
just... maybe keep the fresh addons.db, come to think of it
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
I use external mysql database, so no need to move back the "Database" folder.
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
There is no "userdata/Textures" folder, are you talking about "userdata/Thumbnails" ?
<shibboleth>
yes
<shibboleth>
sorry
<AlexisBRENON[m]>
* I use external mysql database, so no need to move back the "Database" folder, right ?
<AlexisBRENON[m]>

<AlexisBRENON[m]>
I suspect the faulty addon to be my skin (Aura). Should I copy "guisettings.xml" ?

well, perhaps try changing it to estuary manually in the config and try the old profile
