I was told about the service called Plex.tv, so I am interested if that is some kind of an IPTV service, which integrates into KODI? Or what is it?
<yangmobile>

[slack] <chewitt> Plex is an alternative to Kodi
<LEBot>
[slack] <chewitt> it has a range of player apps for different OS, and a server component that is often run on NAS devices
<LEBot>
[slack] <chewitt> Kodi even has an official player app that allows it to leverage a Plex server back-end
<LEBot>
[slack] <chewitt> and at one point the semi-official ‘Plex Embedded’ distro for RPi/x86-64 was based upon LE (but with Plex app not Kodi)
<LEBot>
[slack] <chewitt> I think that died off eventually
<LEBot>
[slack] <chewitt> People who paid for the ‘Plex Pass’ can share their library to other Plex users; so it’s not IPTV but at one point there was trend of people selling access to their huge pirate movie collections .. but I think moves were made to curb that
<LEBot>
[slack] <chewitt> I use Plex for remote streaming of content from home when I travel for work .. it will transcode on-the-fly to offer different stream sizes and qualities so I can fit something to the available (inevitably shitty) hotel bandwidth

chewitt ok thanks for the explanation, I made an account on their website
<yang>
I already have also IPTV / VOD from the ISP provider. It comes with the internet fiber link. That one requires using their own (proprietary?) set-top box. I was always interested if I could integrate that into KODI aswell, to only use the KODI interface for Video/Music/IPTV, but someone told me it's complicated.

<th0n1>
apt-get
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> there is no package manager, but you can install some programs via kodi addons
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> I'm not familiar with vpn setup, so someone else will have to help you
<th0n1>
ok, thank you.
<th0n1>
I guess I have to do it manually.

<MrTAP>
yang: I use the Kore app on my phone to control it
<yang>
I am happy with the TV remnote
<MrTAP>
only hook up a keyboard just long enough to get LE online and enable the web service
<yang>
remote
<yang>
it worked without keyboard
<MrTAP>
perfect there ya go
<yang>
:)
<MrTAP>
my tv isn't cool enough to let me use its remote with LE :(
<yang>
oh
<yang>
Mine has this thing called CEC module
<MrTAP>
yep that is the ticket
<yang>
it's been working since 10 years ago in KODI on RPI 1 A
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> CEC has often to be enabled on TV
<yang>
right in the early versions it had to be enabled
<yang>
now it seemed to be automatic
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> no, on my LG TV I still had to enable it
<yang>
Do you remember where exactly is that option in the menu?=
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> no, but it shouldn't be that hard to find 🙂
<LEBot>
[slack] <jernej> biggest problem is that every manufacturer calls CEC differently
<yang>
I notice my LE 10.0.2 got a bit frozen for a few minutes, maybe because SD card was in use with the transfer, and it couldn't process the video on the SD card, I mean it stalled for a minute or two...
<MrTAP>
yeah I have an LG... actually just looked it up and they call it Simplink. Maybe that's why I couldn't find anything CEC-related in the menus

Is it possible to change then ssh port?
<yang>
the
<MrTAP>
not sure, but why would you want to?
<yang>
for security reasons
<MrTAP>
wouldn't make much of a difference unless you expect an attacker to already be on your lan and not try hard
<Ommand>
might want to start with changing the username and password, if you're concerned with security
<yang>
oh i have a password changed
<yang>
ok it's not a big deal
<yang>
just wondered if there is an option in the menus
