This is actually what introduced us to Glasgow - a friend told us about “this cool dev board with trans pride LEDs”
<sierrasheher[m]>
ofc it’s so much more than that and we got rather excited 🙂
<Darius>
haha that is cute

On that note, is there a place where work is being done on future, network connected, revisions of Glasgow is being done? Or is that kind of “on hold until current state of the project is more stable” thing?
<sorear>
revE (ecp5/fx3/ethernet) was definitely discussed here years ago, but afaik it's on hold due to everything
<whitequark[cis]>
it's not so much "on hold" as "not planned to start until we ship revC"
<whitequark[cis]>
i.e. there was no work that started and then got paused; no meaningful work has ever been done or planned
<cyborgar>
it would be nice if it was based on the colorlight i5
<whitequark[cis]>
no I don't think I'm going to do that
<whitequark[cis]>
for revE I'm going to want at least as much control over what we ship as for the previous revisions
<whitequark[cis]>
not really interested in depending on random third party boards

ahh that all seems very reasonable!

the colorlight i5 is convenient for one offs, but it doesn't really have any advantages in volume, leaving you only with the disadvantages which are also significant
<galibert[m]>
won't future revisions need a beefier fpga than a ecp5, and least for pin count?
<whitequark[cis]>
ecp5 has a pretty high pin count?
<galibert[m]>
isn't only one left in the current glasgow?
<whitequark[cis]>
we use an ice40 right now
<galibert[m]>
oh
<galibert[m]>
not sure why I thought you were ecp5 already, sorry
<whitequark[cis]>
ecp5 has up to 365 i/o
<whitequark[cis]>
that's... enough
<galibert[m]>
yeah, it is

Yea, they are kind of helpful for one offs or like things you want a small number of, or maybe designs you want people to be able to build themselves, but if you are manufacturing in volume it likely is just better to buy the parts yourself
