<dnkl> as far as I know, tiled windows aren't problematic on sway, only floating ones are

<dnkl> I've been experimenting a bit with compilation flags... arch's default makepkg.conf adds several cflags that increases the resulting binary's size
<dnkl> by removing those flags, the size of a PGO built foot was reduced by ~100K. Not much perhaps, but it's a reduction by ~20%. In that sense it's a lot
<dnkl> some of the flags are security related, so may not be something you'd want to remove
<dnkl> still, interesting to see how much the size is affected
<dnkl> one thing we *don't* need in foot is frame unwinding (for exception interoperability with c++)
<dnkl> removing -fexceptions alone removed ~50K

<urosm> Is it possible for a terminal to indicate when the multi key is active? (the interpunct char that is shown in firefox or libreoffice for example) or is something like this not possible in the terminal?

<jpp> urosm: What do you call the Multi key?
<urosm> the compose key?
<jpp> AltGr ?
<urosm> I guess. I have it set to ralt with xkb_options compose:ralt
<jpp> What exactly is the problem?
<jpp> Which operating system are you using?
<cbb> dnkl: that -fexceptions observation was useful, thanks!
<dnkl> cbb: unfortunately adding -fno-exceptions to meson.build didn't work. I'm assuming the flags from makepkg is appended (and thus overrides) the flags from meson.

<cbb> dnkl: yeah, it seems that way from the `ninja --verbose` output
<cbb> I guess Meson orders $CFLAGS after add_project_arguments() flags

<cbb> that wasn't relevant in my case, but possibly relevant to foot
<cbb> I guess it's not in practice, given that pthread_cleanup_push() isn't used, but just for the sake of being aware of the reasoning behind it
<urosm> jpp: I'm using Linux. I use the compose key to type accented characters. The *sequence* of `compose + ' + a` results in `á`. This works perfectly fine in foot except I don't get a visual indicator when the compose key is active. GUI apps usually provide this indicator as an interpunct character which then gets replaced with the result of the compose sequence. Before submitting a feature request for
<urosm> this kind of a visual indicator in foot I wanted to ask if there's something preventing this to even be possible in a terminal emulator.
<jpp> urosm: I'll let you check with dnkl, I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject.
urosm has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<dnkl> cbb: it's unclear to me if omitting -fexceptions introduces the "vulnerable" pointer even if the program doesn't do thread cancellation
<dnkl> I'll definitely skip exceptions in my personal PKGBUILD, but don't intend to push it on packagers
