<furq>
i don't think there is anything open source for bluray authoring
<SupUser>
wym by that?
<furq>
ffmpeg can prepare the streams but that's all
<SupUser>
people just stopped making homevideos 20 years ago?
<SupUser>
oic
<furq>
people stopped caring about bluray about 10 years ago
<SupUser>
Nah, bluray is the main disk to use.
<SupUser>
wytb
<SupUser>
People definitely went from SD to HDTV
<sonicrules1234>
I think he means people don't use discs that often anymore
<furq>
and they went from discs to streaming
<SupUser>
what format does a tivo or dvr use?
<furq>
most tvs nowadays will play back h264 in mp4
<sonicrules1234>
I don't think bluray was around during the tivo days
<SupUser>
ps3 was bluray
<SupUser>
2006 or something
<SupUser>
same w/ 1080p
<sonicrules1234>
I've never had a playstation console, but I remember the ps2 had dvd
<SupUser>
whatever

<StephenLynx>
yeah, I think building a menu is outside ffmpeg's capabilities, SupUser . ffmpeg is focused on the actual audiovisual data. a menu is more like, software.
<SupUser>
streaming still has those slection points
<StephenLynx>
im not arguing on that, what people have a demand or not. just what is within ffmpeg's scope.
<SupUser>
I don't think it's any more proprietary tbh.
<StephenLynx>
i mean, streaming services use web tech
<SupUser>
nah
<SupUser>
hardware's good.
<StephenLynx>
i think we are talking about different stuff here.
<SupUser>
I'm talking about how if you hit the skip button during a movie it moves to a specific point.
<StephenLynx>
if you are accessing a streaming service on your browser, they don't have much option outside a web GUI.
<SupUser>
same w/ a streaming service skipping commercials
<furq>
chapters are standard in most containers
<furq>
but on bluray it's part of the disc structure outside of the container
<furq>
so that would be up to the authoring tool
<StephenLynx>
and large corporations usually use frameworks that start with the developer writing javascript and html that then are built to something else to run on different devices.
<StephenLynx>
hell, electron straight up ran a browser.
<StephenLynx>
and if you are shipping a disc, there is no hardware there, only software.
<StephenLynx>
so I am almost sure you are talking about something else entirely when you mention "hardware"
<SupUser>
I meant that it worked on any brand
<SupUser>
it's not brand specific or proprietary software.

<SupUser>
whereas if you have a universal remote it's got like hundreds or thousands of codes to make something work.
<SupUser>
Basically I'm saying it's somehow not as complex as what you're thinking. It's gotta be a movie thing then maybe?
<furq>
sure but i meant the mp4 that has the audio track you want
<johnjaye>
oh you're saying i don't even need to extract it at all i see
<johnjaye>
i don't have to say 0:v:0 and 1:a:0 there
<johnjaye>
?
<furq>
they're the same if there's only one video and audio stream
<furq>
0 means all streams in file 0, 0:v means all video streams in file 0, 0:v:0 means the first video stream in file 0, etc
<johnjaye>
ok. i would not have guessed that.
<johnjaye>
my intuition would be 0:v defaults to 0:v:0

weird. for some reason single quotes aren't acceptable to windows cmd.exe
<johnjaye>
i have to use " instead of ' for the overlay filter examples
