<BtbN> bengalih: keep in mind that converting from mp3 to aac is hardly worth it, unless the mp3 files use absolutely astronomically excessive bitrate. The quality loss to achieve any noteworthy space savings will be much too high.

<martin__--> Hi, I'm trying to build ffmpeg from source. However when executing configure followed by make it looks like there is nothing to compile: CC=/c/opt/gcc-7.1/bin/gcc CXX=/c/opt/gcc-7.1/bin/g++ ../ffmpeg-2.8.22/configure --enable-nonfree --disable-doc --disable-manpages --enable-shared --extra-libs="-lpthread -lm" --enable-gpl followed by make which results in `doc/Makefile:182: no file name for -include` `Makefile:127: no file
<martin__--> name for -include` `tests/api/Makefile:9: no file name for -include` `tests/Makefile:232: no file name for -include` `make: *** No rule to make target libavdevice/libavdevice.so, needed by ffmpeg_g. Stop.` `debian-sparc:~/ffmpeg-2.8.22# cd ..`

<furq> is that with gnu make
<furq> oh never mind it's debian
<martin__--> yes its with gnu make. I compiled other software without problems using gcc-7.1

<bengalih> @BtBN - thanks. The purpose is to create M4B files, I realize I am re-encoding compressed formats, but I only have the source as MP3.
<BtbN> m4b? Is that audio-book-stuff?
<BtbN> All these formats are just mp4 with different extensions. So maybe you can just mux mp3 in there?
<BtbN> Never tried it though

<welder> Hi, does ffmpeg support pipewire for capturing audio? I'm looking to replace recording using "-f pulse" with pipewire
<BtbN> via the pulseaudio APIs, sure
<welder> pulse is cutting last 1-2 seconds of recording, no clue why
<welder> is there any way to debug that?
<welder> and overall, they say pulse is passe
<BtbN> There being some buffering/delay is normal, ffmpeg is not made for low latency operation
Sketch has joined #ffmpeg

<another|> Pulse API use is still encouraged by PW
<BtbN> Not much point in inventing a new API and breaking the entire userland really

<secondcreek> Heya. Anyone had this error b4, where you specify an input file and ffmeg reports "86245.mp4: No such file or directory" however the input filename is 186245.mp4
<secondcreek> that is on 4.4.2
ferreum has quit [Quit: bye]
<secondcreek> then on next attempt it might say 5.mp4: No such file or directory
ferreum has joined #ffmpeg
<secondcreek> no rhyme or reason
<furq> maybe reset your terminal

<secondcreek> Was a bash thing
<secondcreek> BROKEN: ls -1N *.mp4 | while read file; do ffmpeg -i "$file" -vn -acodec libmp3lame -q:a 8 "$file.mp3"; done;
<secondcreek> WORKS: for file in *.mp4; do ffmpeg -i "$file" -vn -acodec libmp3lame -q:a 8 "${file%.mp4}".mp3; done;
<BtbN> on that note, -acodec is deprecated, use -c:a
<BtbN> and libmp3lame without any configs will produce something rather poor
<secondcreek> k thx.
<secondcreek> so i tested the output from -q:a and 8 is a good compromise between size and quality for this project. anything you can suggest? These are just people talking.
