<mtak> Hi
<mtak> I'm trying to build the crux 3.7 iso
<mtak> When i do make bootstrap, it gives me the error "make: /hacks.sh: No such file or directory"
<mtak> Do I need to move the file to the root directory?
<mtak> Also, can I only build the iso on a Crux system?
<mtak> Can I not use any other distro?
<SiFuh> jaeger: ^

<jaeger> in case he/she reads the log: No, you do not need to move any files, it works as-is. You could probably build on a non-crux distribution with pkgutils installed, but it's definitely written with crux in mind.

<SiFuh> jaeger: Never been able to build an ISO on any other distro
<SiFuh> But the question we should ask is why is he building an ISO?
<SiFuh> I have had like zero time today.
<ukky> He/she might be a developer and need a device-specific ISO. Or current ISO might be missing some kernel options. Or need ISO for diffrent CPU arch.
<SiFuh> ukky: but could read the scripts and see that moving hacks.sh is not needed
<SiFuh> Hopefully will back. Want to see how it goes
<SiFuh> I have always battled with the ISO scripts.
<SiFuh> I was hoping for a more universal installer a stupidly easy one, not related to CRUX like busy box. That could install CRUX.
<SiFuh> You'd boot strap core and such but CRUX would not be the main bootable system where you run the installer from.
<SiFuh> But although I say all that, I am also of the mind that everything should be 100% CRUX from start to finish. So there is a contradiction
<ukky> I managed to build ISO with jaeger's fix for my SAS controller, but I made a lot of modifications to Makefile, as I wanted to build ISO as fakeroot user.
<SiFuh> ukky: me too with my stuff. Too many modifications to be normal
<ukky> There is very dangerous 'rm -fr' command in Makefile. If chrooted 'make' fails in the middle or is killed by user (me), it can erase the whole host root directory. I think the sequence is: 1) Kill chrooted 'make'; 2) Restart 'make'; 3) Makefile does 'rm -fr $FAKE_ROOT' with '/' mounted as 'bind' directory somewhere inside $FAKE_ROOT

<jaeger> I've got a minimal busybox ISO that I was thinking about making into a minimal crux installer ISO
<farkuhar> Now I'm curious to learn which distro mtak was trying to build the ISO with, and which distros failed to build the ISO for SiFuh.
<farkuhar> On another note, the rust-bin port in the mikejsavage collection only needed a few minor changes to make it a viable replacement for the latest rust. Give it a try if compiling a huge toolchain every 6 weeks isn't for you. http://ix.io/4y52
<ukky> Just a rant of the day: it would be cool to have a single ISO to auto-detect CPU and load appropriate kernel/RamFS on i686, x86_64, Arm32, Aarch64, etc. Does any distro makes such ISO? AFAIK, you always have to select target CPU arch.
<jaeger> I'm not aware of one

<ukky> Similar approach is used for PCI ROM. As an example, Graphics PCI BIOS can simultaneously contain X86 UEFI ROM, and ARM UEFI ROM. Such PCI card can be used on both X86 and ARM CPU arch, without reprogramming PCI BIOS.

<emmett1> Talking about iso, has anybody been build live session iso? Like full gui (xorg/wayland)
<jaeger> There's CruxEX with LXDE, not aware of others
