hi guys, does CRUX's networkmanager support openvpn by default?
<SiFuh>
There use to be an openvpn and networkmanager-openvpn port in contrib. Guess it got dropped
<SiFuh>
I think ocb was using openvpn.
<ppetrov^>
thanks
<SiFuh>
I remember I tried using Network Manager but I didn't like the constantly dropping network. So I used openvpn scripts and the rc scripts for CRUX. But that was 3 or more years ago so I don't remember what I did.
<SiFuh>
ppetrov^: If I need a VPN in the future, I will probably use wireguard
<ppetrov^>
SiFuh, I have been having issues with CRUX's networkmanager applet: messes up my x cursor and sometimes x does not load. really no idea why, but since I am using ancient Xfce, i would blame myself for these issues
<ppetrov^>
wireguard? I need openVPN because this is what my University uses
<SiFuh>
CRUX doesn't have an applet
<SiFuh>
Crux uses rc scripts
<SiFuh>
So that is an XFCE issue I guess
<SiFuh>
Ahh NetworkManager is from GNOME not XFCE sorry
<ppetrov^>
yep, network-manager-applet from contrib
<ppetrov^>
for the record, building networkmanager breaks because of some issue with ppp. Disabling said ppp builds fine

<r0ni>
i got networkmanager to build fine on arm but it fails on intel (go figure)
<r0ni>
and i'm attempting to get xfce 4.18 going eventually.. slowly
<r0ni>
newest i found in repos is 4.15, which is already a number of years old
<r0ni>
oh huh that a diff one, i was building off the jolupalabs one
<SiFuh>
r0ni: -> dlcusa: xfce_4.16 is broken by libmpd being dropped from contrib. Adding it back to the xfce_4.16 repo has been on my todo list but other stuff needs to be done to be able to do that.
<r0ni>
i should of picked something i was more familiar with. i don't really use xfce but gnome seems not a starter project lol
<SiFuh>
Heh
<r0ni>
but i did start gnome as well
<r0ni>
i want to do gnome 42 as most of it was still gtk3 and 43+ is all gtk4 mess but 42 was the last of the light on resources for old machines
<r0ni>
oh wow the 4.16 even has tons of plugins and such
<SiFuh>
I's start looking into making a libmpd though as dlcusa mentioned.
<r0ni>
oh that don't seem complicated, i'm sure i can handle it
<SiFuh>
r0ni: This was libmpd before it was dropped
<r0ni>
looks identical to the arch pkg, patches and all
<r0ni>
are ports dropped by a system, or does someone physically do it?
<farkuhar>
r0ni: someone drops the ports manually. In the past such actions were only taken after a good-faith effort to find a new maintainer, usually on one of the mailing lists.
<r0ni>
ahh just curious, that lib specifically hasn't had any action in years, tho its used only in xfce so it makes sense to not have without the DE anyway
<farkuhar>
ArchLinux users aren't affected when the upstream url for libmpd/gmpc stops resolving, since they usually install binary packages. But CRUX users won't be able to build libmpd from the source tarball, unless someone is hosting the old site's content at a new url.
<r0ni>
fair point, if I end up using it, i'll host it ;)
