ocb, braewoods: I was able to set up multiple kvm VMs on an openvswitch bridge very trivially - haven't tried with tuntap yet, just bridged virtio interfaces, but works great
<jaeger>
libvirt/kvm/openvswitch
<jaeger>
I'm testing this on a dell r610 with one NIC dedicated to host management and a different one dedicated to VMs (this one is in the openvswitch bridge)
<jaeger>
(the specific hardware doesn't matter, just mentioning that it's a phsyical server with multiple NICs)

has used that combo for a long time without issues
<jaeger>
I knew someone had but I couldn't remember who :P
<pedja>
granted, not on a fancy multi-nic server :)
<jaeger>
Next I'll set it up with LACP but I got distracted figuring out that apparently the CRUX install ISO lost its ability to use a serial console at some point, so I'm readding that
<pedja>
nobody complained about that? :)
<jaeger>
Not that I recall, but it's entirely possible someone did and I missed it. I've had vanishingly small amounts of free time for crux stuff lately
<jaeger>
Right now I have some time because I'm stuck on a multi-hour work call where they don't need me right at the moment

ocb: and if you can use an LXC or LXD container it's probably a better choice due to less overhead
<braewoods>
ocb: but limited to Linux instances because they use the host kernel

hmm. Upgrading imagemagick for first time since October 2nd (i have a few things frozen), and if i now compile it then it fails with
<stenur>
/usr/bin/grep: /usr/lib/libfreetype.la: No such file or directory
<stenur>
..and i thought one just needs to rebuild to get that right?
<stenur>
For fontconfig the simple recompile worked.

also for xorg-libxfont, xorg-libxfont2 and xorg-libxft. (Not that i ever had a problem ever since beginning of November when the issue arose, with always up-to-date freetype.)
<stenur>
yay. must be one of the others which were not rebuilt or what.
