<SiFuh> ukky: I have the complete book I think already. Let me check
<SiFuh> ukky: I do just a different number.

<SiFuh> remiliascarlet: ukky: Holy shit! On the TV series "Farmer Wants a Wife" this woman has to go get eggs from the chicken coup. When she sees the chicken she says "Wait, so when we eat chicen, this is that? Oh I might be a vegetarian. Oh my god." She didn't know that the chicken that you eat comes from a bird
<SiFuh> Reminds me of when I was teaching English part time in Shanghai. Asked the class where milk comes from and one boy says the shop. He isn't wrong but everyone was saying "Cows!" and he was enraged and shouted "No, it comes from the shop. My mother buys it. I know!"

<SiFuh> ukky:
<SiFuh> Now for the brewing of the best March Beer, you shall allow to a Hogshead thereof a quarter [eight bushels] of the best Malt well ground, then you shall take a Peck [a quarter of a bushel] of Pease, half a peck of Wheat, and half a peck of Oats and grind them all very well together, and then mix them with your Malt
<SiFuh> This beer recipe seems to be a lot of ground solids.
<SiFuh> You'd need about 450 to 680 liters of water to ferment that
<SiFuh> I only have enough space to brew 400 litres.

<SiFuh> ivandi is sleep joining ;-)
<ukky> Someone is gonna be reach selling that much beer. Unless it is for personal use.
<SiFuh> Was a recipe from a house wife for her husband back in the 15 hundreds
<SiFuh> If I do recall. I have made it before but in a much smaller batch.
<SiFuh> I also have and have made the same recipe that Mohammad use to drink before alcohol became forbidden in Islam
<SiFuh> But don't tell the Muslims that. They seem to get all offended when they find out he was an alcoholic and in his later years they banned it.
<SiFuh> ukky: In Malaysia. I bought some beer. farkuhar also bought a can of tiger and a large can of Guiness stout. As we were leaving the shop I said "Let's drink a beer" Hahaha He opens the Guiness! I said "Nooooo, save that for later. Drink the Tiger" But it was too late...
<SiFuh> ukky: My favorite scene was when we were about to enter a shopping mall and there was a sign that said 'No Durian' and I didn't see it. farkuhar pointed it out. So I went looking for a place to stash it and when I turned around he was scoffing it down. HAHAHA I have never in my life seen that.
<ukky> farkuhar might be Irish if he likes Guiness
<SiFuh> ukky: And my friends here say "Durian is the King of fruit" but after meeting me they would say "Durian is the King of fruit and SiFuh is the King of Durian" because I know everything about Durian. From seed to consumption. And yet farkuhar surprised me.
<SiFuh> ukky: No, I wanted him to try the Malaysian Guinness. But it was intended to try at home in the hotel and not out walking the streets. Even the guy who sold Durian told him that he can't eat Durian if he drank it or he will die.
<SiFuh> ukky: There is an urban legend that drinking alcohol and eating Durian will kill you. But it isn't just Malaysia. It crosses ALL of South East Asia.
<ukky> Maybe there is some chemical reaction if you mix both.
<SiFuh> Everyone knows someone who died but know one knows who actually died.
<SiFuh> ukky: I have read all the papers. Some say yes, most say no. And those who wrote the papers that say yes are Asians. But many of my friends and I drink alcohol and eat Durian.
<SiFuh> ukky: Durian is very expensive these days. Fortunately most of the locals who sell them around here and some other small places around S.E.A. know me and I can usually get a couple for free.
<SiFuh> ukky: You can open the fruit, but it requires knowledge of where you need to cut. I prefer to sit it on the countertop and let it sit a few days and let it naturally split open. It tastes way better that way. But most people can't do this because apparently the smell is so bad they can't even sleep.
<ukky> Never tasted it, but I see them sometimes in the store.
<SiFuh> Hence banned in shopping malls, as well as ALL public transport. In fact, the smell is suppose to be so horrendous that people who love to eat it, will buy it and hang it outside their car when they drive home.
<SiFuh> ukky: I saw in Australia. But they cut the spines off of it to make it easier handling.
<SiFuh> ukky: Try it. Not many Westerners can eat it, that I have noticed. They usually vomit.
<SiFuh> I am not good with taste, and I can't smell. But for me it is like a yellow poo, that kind of tastes like super sweat custard and something sour.
<ukky> Nah, I do like eating anything non-familiar
<SiFuh> It's just a fruit.
<SiFuh> Trying to search a name for another fruit. I don't know the English word. Hold on
<SiFuh> Mangosteen <-- Ever eaten this?
<ukky> no
<SiFuh> Snake fruit <-- How about this?
<ukky> I only buy pears lately
<SiFuh> Do you like Custard Apples?
<ukky> Cannot eat apples, they are too acidic
<SiFuh> Mangosteen is similar in taste for me but a bit more solid and wet.
<SiFuh> I said Custard Apples. Not Apples
<SiFuh> Snake fruit is the same but more chewy and chalky.
<ukky> I don't think I have seen Custard Apples
<SiFuh> Wow
<SiFuh> Maybe they don't grow there. They grow in Australia
<SiFuh> They are like a fruit delacacy like Mangoes are
<ukky> Maybe I never paid attention
<SiFuh> ukky: I wonder what is more surprising. You have Durian there? Or... you don't have Custard Apples?
<SiFuh> Hahaha
<SiFuh> ukky: Like my friend from Baltimore. He says. I am very surprised that you eat dog! But I am more surprised you don't eat chicken?
<ukky> We have plenty exotic fruits in stores. It is just me that I do not pay attention what they are.
<SiFuh> Understandable. I do pay attention because a lot of them grow wild in the jungles. So knowing them can be a key in survival.
<ukky> For survaval, you need to know all of them. What is poison, what can be used for fast healing etc
<SiFuh> Actually that isn't correct. But it is great if you could.
<SiFuh> ukky: Usually you will find if something fruits and it tastes good. The chances are you can eat it. Because the plants want it to taste good, so you eat it, that way they can disperse the seeds.
<ukky> The guy from 'Into the Wild' 2007 was paralized because he ate something that was poisonous.
<SiFuh> But this rule technically only applies to fruits
<SiFuh> Oooohhh I have to see that.
<SiFuh> Chilli is a unique example. It is designed in such a way that birds can see it. And it doesn't burn birds when they eat it.
<ukky> He went into solo survaval trip and even had a book with all kind of berries you can eat, but made a deadly mistake
<SiFuh> Now I have heard many 'experts' say that it is because birds can disperse the seeds further than ground treaders like humans. But I don't agree
<SiFuh> ukky: Downloading it now. I can't wait to see it. Haha
<ukky> If I'd say 'survival' movie, that would trigger your attention D
<SiFuh> I think the reason Chilli is spicey for ground treaders is because our digestive system is much longer than that of birds. So the chemical will cause us to defecate faster so the seed doesn't die in our digestive tract. But that is just my thinking.
<SiFuh> ukky: Yep, and I already have it. Will watch it in the evening.
<SiFuh> That didn't take long less than 2 minutes.
<ukky> I hope you enjoy it as I did
<SiFuh> ukky: I myself tend to not touch berries and go more towards animal flesh and certain leaves.
<SiFuh> ukky: Australia is kind of lucky. There are only two known sweet fruits that will kill you. Everything else that kills you, tastes horrible.
<SiFuh> Also another rule is if any plant has spines or thorns. Don't touch it. But in reality that rule kind of doesn't work. Dragon Fruit, wild Blackberries, wild Raspberries. To name a few.
<SiFuh> Also another old rule was eat what the birds eat. But that also doesn't work. Birds often eat poisonous fruits then go out and eat mud to stop the poison.
<SiFuh> And another rule. If it is brightly coloured then you shouldn't touch it. It is natures warning. Who the fsck made that rule up? I can understand with animals like frogs and snakes but fruit?
<SiFuh> ukky: All the books on wild food here are in black and white and no photographs. All drawings.
<SiFuh> ukky: By the way, have you ever watched the TV series 'Alone'?
<ukky> Poisonous berries/fruits should have color pictures, what is the point of B&W pictures.
<SiFuh> The Australian version sucks.
<SiFuh> The US version is good
<ukky> 'Alone', not sure. I will check if my 'watched-db' has it.
<SiFuh> ukky: I agree but there is a small problem. Plants mutate. So a cobbler's peg in Australia may look different in Malaysia
<SiFuh> ukky: Most of the Alone episodes (US version) it is filmed in Canada or Alaska
<ukky> Watched 'Alone' 2020 movie.
* ukky always has to quit at this time
<SiFuh> Sam Larson from Season 1 and 3 and Roland Welker from Season 7 were my favorites
<SiFuh> ukky: I gave a a Ghost Pepper tree to Siti. She lives on a farm. She planted it and the monkeys came and started eating the chilli. She said it was scary because the monkeys went crazy. Screaming and jumping and fighting the tree. When they realised how spicy it was they ripped every leaf and brach off of that tree. The tree died.
