jaeger changed the topic of #crux-devel to: CRUX (https://crux.nu/) development channel | Logs: https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/crux-devel/
<jaeger> Is this just another new dependency thing?
<jaeger> hatchling.plugin.exceptions.UnknownPluginError: Unknown metadata hook: fancy-pypi-readme
<jaeger> Looks like maybe it is: https://github.com/hynek/hatch-fancy-pypi-readme

<jaeger> yeah
<beerman> jaeger: http://dpaste.com/FB7ZM83R2 are you fine with this change? i am pulling 3.6 into 3.7 right now
<beerman> also should be /usr/bin/python3 to kill the chance of a virtual environment interfering
<jaeger> I guess it could be done this way but seems simpler to just use '$PKG/usr/lib/python*/blah' instead
<beerman> true
<beerman> but why be a shotgun if you can be a surgical scalpel? :D
<jaeger> I was just thinking of processing overhead, minor though it is
<beerman> well, you can decide, * or my diff
<beerman> i am whatever, i used that with core/nftables and i think romster used it before me with contrib/boost or something, not sure

<beerman> i went with * for the sake of getting done with it for the moment
<beerman> feel free to change it
<farkuhar> "shotgun versus surgical scalpel" is a choice we can make in the Pkgfile, but not in the footprint (unless a proposal like FS#1576 is adopted). Since the footprint in the 3.6 ports tree will already have python3.9 hard-coded, the extra overhead of having the Pkgfile spawn a python process (just to get the version number) is almost "too clever by half".
<beerman> i don't see how that saying could apply here, but okay
<farkuhar> actually "too clever by half" is more apt as a description of the FS#1576 proposal. Rather than requiring the same footprint to fit every installation, Fun offers a pre_diff_footprint_filter() that could pipe the auto-generated footprint through sed, changing the python version number before testing for a footprint mismatch.
<SiFuh> farkuhar: kind of like <kernel-version> in footprints for drivers? I remember mentioning it a few years back that perl and python should have a <python-version> <perl-version>
