Debian 12.x (Bookworm) Minimal Snapshot on Beagle Bone Black

keeps failing to find root fs: ALERT! /dev/mmcblk0p1 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

jakllsch: maybe there's an old u-boot on eMMC that doesn't understand the system on sd card for some reason? try bypassing it by powering on while holding down the S2 button (the button closest to the SD card slot). you can let go of the button once the power led turns on

I can't see a reason why that would result in the error you gave but I'm not sure what else it could be either

(if that fixes the problem then the persistent fix would be to either flash the system to eMMC or, if you want to continue running from sd card, erase eMMC or at least wipe sector 256 of eMMC to disable its u-boot)

was already holding S2 during power on

seems to be picking up the newer u-boot from this decade rather than last
