<SuperDev> Hi, I'm genuinely interested about downloading Linux on my MacBook Pro 2020. However, I've come across information, suggesting that running a regular version of Linux could brick my device. I've been told to use a modified version of Linux specifically designed for MacBook compatibility.
<DC-IRC>
<SuperDev> I would appreciate learning more about the experience of using Linux on a MacBook with a T2 chip. Are there any downsides or limitations to consider when running Linux on a MacBook? Does the T2 chip functionality remain intact, and is there any compromise in terms of security? Moreover, I'm curious if there are any known bugs or issues that might arise when running Linux on this <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
<SuperDev> setup. I want to ensure that the transition to Linux on my MacBook is as smooth and trouble-free as possible.

DC it won't brick your machine, if have the t2 chip, you may run into some compatability issues with firmware. tou can also run the any vompatiable linux flavour without installing it, you could run from usb, even install to an external drive, these will not eun as fast, but it will give you the abaility to see how it functions.
<_Random>
you can partition the drive & dual boot.

<_dal_> I'm having an issue where if I enable g_ether then all other external networking no longer works, (ethernet and wifi) the devices still show in lsusb and lsmod shows the modules as loaded
<DC-IRC>
<_dal_> but ifconfig and iwconfig don't show the devices at all

<.richn> if you want to run linux on a m1/m2 mac. I say use utm and run a virtual machine
<DC-IRC>
<.richn> then you dont have to deal with t2 chip issues
<DC-IRC>
<Reddeck> does Armbian have any implementation of software i2c, or should I get it done from python? The feature and scope creep is real...

This is AB_Stromer, new fan of Armbian, using it on my PinebookPro. Ran into heavy trouble with Manjaro and U-Boot ending with a no longer booting Pinebook. Armbian saved me...:)
