[Discord] <beohoff3174> Yes

[Discord] <beohoff3174> If you want to use jellyfin, you should use the vendor kernel
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <beohoff3174> If you want to use the gpu with panfrost, it's been ported to the vendor kernel, but you have to enable it with an overlay
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <zeeto9> Yea I’d try the vendor kernel too. That’s what I am running jellyfin server on and it works amazingly. I only server the videos from the device. I watch it from another device. Doing that I can get several streams running without issue and it’s even running frigate nvr in the background too.

[Discord] <frankn.steroids> I'm using the vendor one
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <frankn.steroids> what are some uses for it
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <frankn.steroids> i was thinking about external GPUs
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <frankn.steroids> this one would be ideal sometimes they appear for $40
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <nagatoronyan> CPU utilization is usually < 10%. Seeing that your CPU frequency is only 408Mhz this could be a problem. It means that the VPU is too fast (856fps) and the CPU can't keep up. Nothing to worry about because the 16 transcodes will preempt the VPU. The total utilization of the ffmpeg processes is similar.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <beohoff3174> The PCIE drivers barely work. Even on a better supported hardware (raspberry pi), I think external GPU's just barely work?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <beohoff3174> I feel like I saw someone link an article in armbian where they added a external gpu to some router hardware and got doom working, while nodding to the fact that this wouldn't be even close to possible on rockchip
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> that was not arm but powerpc
<DC-IRC>

[Discord] <mecoblock> somebody would need to retest with the most recent and progress
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> somebody would need to retest with the most recent AMD progress
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <nagatoronyan> It's really not worth it, the transcoding performance of any cheap AMD card you can find is beaten by the RK3588's VPU, in terms of FPS and image quality.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <zeeto9> It doesn’t help that it’s a mining gpu. Even states: “This is a mining only GPU, it does not have display outputs, and can not be used for gaming or any other purpose.”
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <zeeto9> And if you take into account the extra $40 and massive energy usage that old gpu would use, you might as well get a mini pc, n100, or similar
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> very true
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <ioncube7221> Armbian Noble ... chromium (from mesa-enabled) ppa ...why its rendering sucks. Many of icons are broken?
