<viraniac> There are some overlays in the mainline. I don't think mainline is against overlays. They simply don't want to load them at runtime and asks them to be loaded via bootloader instead

<Tonymac32> I think most maintainers reject them, I saw some get proposed on Rockchip recently and afaik they got immediately rejected. They aren't used by the kernel so it's a tough sell to ask for them to be maintained
