<DC-IRC>
<xinity> hey folks, i'm looking to change the OS on my rock64 mainboards and i was wondering if armbian fixes a mac address or uses the hardware one 🙂
<DC-IRC>
<xinity> ?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> @IgorPec do you guys have an engineering sample of the quartzpro64 btw?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> *developer sample
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> i don't think we have it
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> If not, would you like to have one?
<DC-IRC>
<Andreas> Hi,
<DC-IRC>
<Andreas> I try to activate can interface over mcp2515 which is connected to spi1 on my Rock 4 C+.
<DC-IRC>
<Andreas> Could you please give me some advice where to start?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> If the quartzpro64 is something that people are interested in id be happy to throw a few bucks into a donation pool
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Im a student and my wage is meager but id contribute 30€
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Thus with 4 more people contributing the same, i think that would be about the money needed
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> we can request a board for free. pine64 is very lucky if we work for them for free
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> I understand armbian support for commercial hardware projects is a littlebit complicated sometimes because of conflicting interests and expenditures
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Maybe if a community donated board would put you in a position where you can evaluate the hardware without beeing commited or feeling obliged in some way to the manufacturer, that would be a thing of interest?
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> if you send a hardware we have no interest even opening a box that its in, why?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Sorry i dont think i understand
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> you want software support and you don't want to pay for and hw vendor don't want to pay for
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> who should pay the rest
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> ?
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> we are talking about months of lost time
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Ok nevermind, are there any RK3588 boards on the horizon yet that do get armbian support?
<DC-IRC>
<amazingfate> The most expensive thing is `free of charge`.
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> Yeah. The cost of the boards I work on (some which I don't even physically have) is like 0.01% of the total cost.
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Thank you guys but i may as well read this script from 20 armbian board threads
<DC-IRC>
<amazingfate> You can try rock5b or orangepi5
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> that said, if PINE wants to send me a couple of Quartz64Pro's, I won't say no. 😄
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Im just a really casual user and i just made a casual offer
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> yes, they are counting on thatz
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> that you will blackmail developers for support
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> Yeah and now you see how traumatized we (and esp. Igor) is with the whole thing so let's let this die down
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> a _lot_ of code to be written and bugs fixed so not waste energy on this
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> 🙂 LOL
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> But i think it goes the other way around too, if armbian supports popular boards, it will receive more popularity and thus more contributors
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> and what exactly we have from that?
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> Yeah yeah yadda yadda. GOOD MORNING everyone
<DC-IRC>
<gambl0r> good morning 🙂
<DC-IRC>
<gambl0r> nearly morning 11:30PM
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Nothing with pcie interface though?
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> OPi5 has pcie?
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> Maybe a mekatronics has PCI-e?
<DC-IRC>
<amazingfate> Opi5 has a pcie2x1 m.2 m slot
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> check with them, they have some crazy stuff
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> Btw rumors state that an OPi5 Pro is WIP featuring a real RK3588 (without S)
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> yeah the `S` cripple is mostly about the PCI bus
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> Yes
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> And there will be armbian images for the opi5?
<DC-IRC>
<EfeCTN> it was shown as opi5 plus on their camera page in aliexpress
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> Already are
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> The name seems to be WIP as well 😄
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> As long as they don't call it LTS since they are well known for adding confusion via naming
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> Opi 5 v2 LTS PRO
<DC-IRC>
<EfeCTN> they always make LTS boards but they never support them properly 😄
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> Ultimate limited edition. Only infinite amount made
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> HW folks have different view on LTS
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> True ^
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> 6.2.7 is released, time to miss some caches 😉
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> caches were done
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> yeah but 6.2.6 no?
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> dunno, lets roll it. have to get that faster server soon if this will be changing daily
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> it's really a PITA that a .7 release with some 20 commits causes a whole recompile due to version.h being included everywhere. No way around it, right?
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> ccache useles,
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> ccache useless
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> caches are up2date
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Do m.2 to sata connector cards work well or only specific chips maybe?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> (on the opi5)
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> Thanks, mine (userpatched) are almost done too
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> If it works on x86 oob it should on the board too I think
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> i put cron on kernel cache recompile on 8 hours, but remote triggering would be probably best to do
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> when upstream change
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> the m.2 on the opi5 is the short `42` one though
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> matrix generator (+ parallel cache checker) will make it very fast, then you can put on like 1-hour
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> other option is a job on 1-hour schedule, that checks kernel.org JSON for change and triggers build job
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> gotta go, let me know how goes with batch-of-fixes today
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> I will come back at evening to fix whatever I frakked up
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Does it matter aside from longer m.2 boards sticking out and need to be held in place with a little creativity?
<DC-IRC>
<EfeCTN> Someone is using longer m2 modules
<DC-IRC>
<EfeCTN> Just needs some tricks
<DC-IRC>
<EfeCTN> Just needs some tricks to make it comfortable
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> I see, id prefer a board with regular pcie slots *cough* quartzpro64*cough* but maybe m.2 is good enough for my purpose
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Ah right, looks good
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> How much idle wattage should i expect from an rk3588 board?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> And i asume wake on lan works with those too?
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> WOL usually doesn't works
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Any way to wake it up remotely?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> BT maybe?
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> by supporting SW project first, not hw vendors only
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> On my rk3399 i cant even use the power button to wake it up
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> this device from before consumes 10 watt with disk together in idle
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> why would you want to shut it down?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> I see, thats about what my rk3399 consumes, i think we discussed that a while ago too
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Well, it doesnt hurt to have it shut down 90% of the day or for weeks during vacations maybe
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> 10w 24/7 are 10w 24/7
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Anyway, i thought if i would upgrade to the 3588 i would not have to live with this minor annoyance
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> software is not there
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Thats not the reason i consider an upgrade, i would want it to do alittle more that beeing a nas for entertainment with a few dockers
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> especially WOL is something that very few devices actually support, i mean that it works also after some time
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Same with Hdmi (cec) and Bluetooth i asume?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Does the actual power button on the opi5 or rock5b wake it up?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> USB?
<DC-IRC>
<el scorpio | qu454|2> Btw eventhough it wasnt much, i paid more for my armbian than for my windows 10 😉

<DC-IRC>
<xinity> hello there, i've been wondering how the armbian mac address is defined? anyone knows where to look out for ?
<DC-IRC>
<MadDuck> gpio fan
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> every hw different
<DC-IRC>
<xinity> indeed my apologies, looking to find for rock64 mainboards
<DC-IRC>
<IgorPec> i would advise forum. getting such info in live chat is very small
<DC-IRC>
<rpardini> varies board by board. some have fused MAC which can be read, some by bootloader, some by kernel. some can't be read. some simply don't have any MAC. gotta look.
