cr1901 changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <Sarayan>
Foone, can I do a request?
<Foone>
yeh
<Sarayan>
A reasonably long (maybe 1mn or so), uncompressed audio recording of a rotating floppy drive (let me know the type and rpm) that is not seeking, to analyse and see if I could generate it algorithmically
<Foone>
sure. my roommate has a quality microphone arriving today or tomorrow, I'll borrow it for that
<Sarayan>
Excellent thanks
<Sarayan>
No urgency, of course, but it's hard to find quality recordings
<Sarayan>
And well, you're supposed to have a floppy drive or two :-)
<Foone>
who told you
<Sarayan>
Hints here and there
<Sarayan>
nothing obvious
<andlabs>
got an ebay purchase today and it came in an egghead computers box; I guess that's one thing I missed out on that I now have
<andlabs>
Sarayan: first the floppy emu and then the gotek, and now whatever you're doing
<andlabs>
emulating floppy disk sounds seems to be A Thing???
<andlabs>
*gotek with flashfloppy

andlabs: somebody else added floppy sounds a while ago, and let's say I'm not convinced much by the result

heh
<andlabs>
which prjoect is this again?
<cr1901>
Foone: Apropos of absolutely nothing, how's SCSI The Bitey Kitty doing if you're keeping tabs?
<SEGFAULTLauren[m>
Does anyone know if there is any software that can enumulate a SCSI HDD with a PC
<andlabs>
in what sense
<SEGFAULTLauren[m>
I have a piece of a gear, which has a SCSI bus on the back. I want to be able to save data from it, but its OS is expecting a SCSI disk, so I would like to fake one using a PC cos SCSI disks are expensive
<SEGFAULTLauren[m>
(and yes I am aware SCSI2SD exists, I am searching for alternatives)
<andlabs>
uhhhh
<andlabs>
good question
<andlabs>
it IS possible -- old macs have SCSI-based target disk mode
<SEGFAULTLauren[m>
(incidentally the peice of gear is an AKAI sampler, which does not have a Yamaha synth chip in it so sorry for the off topic)
<cr1901>
SEGFAULTLauren[m: I have NEVER enforced on-topic lmao, no worries
<cr1901>
One of my favorite communities (Near's forum, RIP) had a running theme where it was guaranteed the topic of each thread would derail at least once
